The CUV is currently available in both traditional and simplified Chinese, and is published by the Hong Kong Bible 2 Society, and the Bible Society in Taiwan。 besides, it is also published by Amity Printing whose foundation is in Nanjing. The three societies are all affiliated with the United Bible Societies which operates in over 200 countries and territories. The CUV in use today is the vernacular Mandarin Chinese version, which is published in two slightly different editions—the Shen Edition and the Shangti Editiondiffering in the way that the word “God” is translated. The vernacular Chinese language in the CUV has changed a lot since 1919 and its language is stilted for modern readers. 2. The Chinese translation of proper noun in the CUV The proper noun is the special part among the nouns, which shows its uniqueness of the subject. Each language has its certain proper noun no matter in writing or spoken language, and what?s more important is that it is necessary for scholars to conduct a further research on it as there are increasing problems of the Chinese translation of it, especially in the Bible. The Chinese translation of proper noun in the Bible is frequently seen, and as the features in the Bible is various like cabbage and keens who is, to some extent, a key player, while the toponym is also significant for it shows the different faith in different areas. They are indispensible ponents for the Chinese 3 translation of the Bible。 furthermore, most of the Chinese translation of the proper noun is literally translated, and there is no assured rule to guide the translation with some existed rules to choose. Also, the translation rules are not thoroughly taken advantage of during the translation, even some nonequivalence among the rules that are difficult to solve the problems in translating. Among the Chinese translation of proper noun, the most important Chinese translation is the toponym and eponym translation. So this study mainly sets out to study the two important elements in the CUV from the perspective of Skopos Theory which is a new perspective to study Bible and it may have a great influence on the following study. B. Significance of the present study The Bible is the masterpiece widely influencing people all over the world, and its special position decides the significance of the Chinese translation of the proper noun. The thesis focuses on the Chinese translation of the toponym and eponym within the theoretical framework of Skopos Theory. When the Bible (CUV) came out in 1919 for the first edition, people were getting confused about it, especially for the proper nouns in it. Since it is popular in China, people are learning the Bible but can?t really go further of it. As for the CUV version, there are many studies based on 4 other theories, like Relevance Theory, Functional Equivalence Theory. However, the study to the Chinese translation of proper noun in the CUV based on the Skopos Theory is something totally new. With this new perspective—the three rules of the Skopos Theory, this study presents different ways of analyzing the CUV as well as the proper noun in it. It might help readers to understand the version more easily from a different aspect and go further of the research in the near future. C. There are many studies of the CUV because of its significance in the world. Here, the study will point out some of the typical studies to cover the overview on the whole development of the research on CUV. As all stories begin with the Genesis, the proper prehension of this part is more than important. So in 1986, the 6 first study on the Genesis is written by Du Benhai, who published the paper aiming to make people distinguish the two myths of genesis in Bible (Du Benhai 79). One is God creating the world in six days, and the other one is the Garden of Eden, as at that time, people were confused about the two, thus history, literature and appreciation of famous painting confounded them, which had a bad effect on the understanding of the Bible. Also in 20xx, Song Yuanfeng refers that there is an argument that which one is better between the Chi
