【正文】 o do her a favor. D. To keep his secret. 23. What do the four stories have in mon? A. They are amusing. B. They are about kids. C. They are works of fiction. D. They are based on true stories. B Frida Kahlo was born on July 6, 1907, in Mexico City. Kahlo suffered from ill health as a child after catching polio (小兒麻痹癥 ) at the age of 6, which made her right leg shorter and thinner than the left. Before her painting career, she aimed for a career in natural sciences, but her dreams were ruined by a serious accident, which caused her pain and illness for the rest of her life. She was paralyzed (癱瘓 ) for three months, alone and lonely. Armed with a few brushes, a range of oil paints and a special easel (畫架 )that allowed her to paint while still in bed, she created some beautiful pieces. Her artwork is sought after by fans and art collectors for high prices, the highest being eight million dollars. Kahlo married Diego Rivera, a famous Mexican artist. They once divorced in 1939, but remarried in 1940. Frida Kahlo once said, ?I never painted dreams. I painted my own reality.‘ This perfectly describes her painting style, one drawn from her personal pain and tragedies. She is a selftaught artist known for her selfportraits(自畫像 ). Mexican culture and tradition was something very important to her, evident in many of her paintings. Apart from her strong sense of Mexican pride, various references to religion were also included. Frida Kahlo‘s selfportrait, ?Girl with Necklace‘, has resurfaced after 60 years of it being hidden from the public eye. This discovery of Kahlo‘s painting is significant, as only ten percent of her work is available in America due to plex and strict export laws in Mexico. Her works are declared as ?artistic monuments‘ by the Mexico president and any works painted in Mexico must remain in Mexico. These strict laws have produced many fakes of Kahlo‘s work. Frida Kahlo‘s legacy lives on till this day, for being not only a wellknown female artist of color, but also a breaker of cultural and social barriers. 24. What caused Kahlo to begin painting? A. Her love for painting. B. Her love of natural scenery. C. Her pain and loneliness in bed. D. Her desire to make more money. 25. What style are Kahlo‘s paintings? A. Romantic. B. Realistic. C. Abstract. D. Impressionist. 26. Why is the discovery of ?Girl with Necklace‘ important? A. There are a lot of fakes. B. It is the only portrait of Kahlo. C. It is regarded as the ?artistic monument‘. D. Kahlo‘s paintings are rare in America. 27. Which of the following best describes Kahlo? A. Talented but unlucky. B. Brave but selfcentered. C. Optimistic and romantic. D. Ambitious and sensitive. C Facebook‘s mooted plan to open up its social work to children under 13 is full of problems, too many, in my view, to make it workable. Let‘s start with this country, Australia. Here teachers and parents are still trying to find out how to deal with cyberbullying (網(wǎng)絡(luò)欺凌 ). Nine out of ten parents said when the bullying happened it was on a social work site. When it came to bullying done in other ways, Australia ranked 15th for mobile devices, 22nd for online chat, 17th for s, 20th for instant messages, 21st for general websites and 18th for other forms of technology. Despite trying their best, parents and teachers alike may not have the skills to prevent serious bad behavior by young children on Facebook, and might not have enough time to watch them every time they use the site. Secondly, why does Facebook want to do this? If it‘s to make more money, then I wouldn‘t want to support Facebook as it tries to get children to beg their parents to buy more Facebook games. Facebook can make huge amounts of money from children‘s games. According to James Steyer, the CEO of Common Sense Media, a pany that tries to look after children‘s safety when they use technology, Facebook‘s plan to allow young children to join is about making more money. ―With the growing concerns and pressure around the way Facebook manages its business, the pany appears to be doing whatever it takes to find new ways to make money and is only interested in shortterm profits.‖ There‘s no doubt that millions of young children are already members of the site, having lied about their age, and that parents have set up accounts for their children. It may be possible that Facebook could add controls to the site that would mean parents would have to agree to their children using Facebook. Making it legal for children to use Facebook would simply mean that many more young children would join it. Also, the more children that use Facebook, the more their schoolmates and friends of the same age will feel pressured to join in. I think children should be allowed to use the benefits of modern technology, but I think it needs to be done in a sensible and safe way. I am not confident that Facebook‘s plan offers enough control so that parents can feel happy that their children can use the site safely. 28. The underlined word ―mooted‖ in the first paragraph probably means ―______‖. A. arguable B. acceptable C. abandoned D. detailed 29. According to the passage, opening Facebook to young children may lead to the following EXCEPT _______. A. more serious cyberbullying problems B. children being crazy about online games C. children telling lies to parents about their schoolwork D. more children following the trend and joining Facebook 30. Where is the passage most likely to be taken from? A. A discussion website. B. A book review. C. A science journal. D. An advertisement. 31. The author writes the passage mainly to _______. A. persuade parents to give up usin
