In their eyes, people read and understand the original first and then translate, and this is the whole process. However, is the process of translating so simple as this? (1) Reading: Reading from the perspective of a translator is totally different from everyday reading. (2) Understanding: At this stage, we should bear in mind all the participants involved in the translating process, the SL text, the translator, the TL text, and the reader… etc. (3) Expression: To express in the target language what we have understood. 第二章 翻譯的過程 [ ] English Department of KDNTC Huang Xin (4) Proofreading: At this stage, we have usually finished our translation, but since we have been indulging ourselves in translating for so long, we most probably have bee numb in thinking and cannot distinguish what is idiomatic English or Chinese. So we had better put the draft aside for a number of days and then pick it up for proofreading. This way, we may easily detect what has been lost in our translation.
