Another project was more successful: he persuaded the ci ty government to buy some land in the centre of the ci ty so it coul d not be sold for busineses. This area i s very improtant for the history of Tianjin. It was here that the city was fi rst bui lt duri ng the Song Dynasty. Later many treasures were found here. To Feng, di ggi ng down in to the earth is li ke readi ng page after page of a book. Each dynasty found in the earth is li ke an i nteresting story. Not long ago he and other writers and artists took photos of the ol d parts of Tianji n. The photos were put i nto a book whi ch was very popular. The money from the book hel ps hi s prjects. Once, and ol d man asked Feng to si gn a book for him, sayi ng he would give it to his grandson who was not yet born.
