Aft er a great many loud expl osi ons, the r ace began. Many of the car s br oke down on the cour se and some dr ivers spent m ore t im e under their cars t han in t hem ! A few car s, however , pleted t he race. The wi nni ng car r eached a sped of f or ty mi les an hour much f aster t han any of i ts r ivals.
