These ASPs offer the use of applications to any client that can be connected using remote, serverbased hosting. Application hosting is proving to be immensely valuable, particularly among midsized enterprises seeking to pete directly with the largest, most wellfunded IT anizations. ASPs are opening the door to a pureservices sale of applications, integration, platforms and munications. IT best practices are at the heart of the ASP model. Business customers consistently seek to purchase service level guarantees that equate to a bestpractices value proposition n corporating criteria such as availability, uptime and security. Remote delivery of these qualities is a challenge e spite the promise of open, universally available data connections via the Inter, private works and the public switched work, bottlenecks can degrade realworld performance. The quality of technology for effective work delivery of applications services is a critical ponent that enables ASPs to deliver their services on a bestpractices basis. The ASP Marketplace ASP outsourcing differs from traditional, mainframebased time sharing: it utilizes clientserver architecture and relies on secure, costeffective packet data munications. Companies pursuing the ASP model have captured attention, 35 includinghighprofilenameslikeFutureLink, ServiceNet, Corio, USinterworking and Teleputing. In addition, many large and wellestablished panies in data processing, Web hosting and integration services are centering new initiatives on the ASP trend. Among the growing field of ASPs, the key applications focus and marketing strategies vary widely. Numerous smaller ASPs are growing aggressively, in both niche and horizontal application markets.
