We are young. “How to spend the youth?” It is a meaningful question. To answer it, first I have to ask “what do you understand by the word youth?” Youth is not a time of life, it’s a state of mind. It’s not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips or supple knees. It’s the matter of the will. It’s the freshneof the deep spring of life.A poet said “To see a world in a grain of sand, and a heaven in a wild flower, hold infinity in the palm of your hand, and eternity in an hour. Several days ago, I had a chance to listen to a lecture. I learnt a lot there. I’d like to share it with all of you. Let’s show our right palms. We can see three lines that show how our and life is. I have a short line of life. What about yours? I wondered whether we could see our future in this way. Well, let’s make a fist. Where is our future?Where is our love, career, and life? Tell , it is in our hands. It is held in ourselves. We all want the future to be better than the past. But the future can go better itself. Don’t cry because it is over, smile because it happened. From the past, we’ve learnt that the life is tough, but we are tougher. We’ve learnt that we can’t choose how we feel, but we can choose what about it. Failure doesn’t mean you don’t have it, it does mean you should do it in a different way. Failure doesn’t mean you should give up, it does mean you must try harder. As what I said at the beginning, “we are reading the first verse of the first chapter of a book, whose pages are infinite”. The past has gone. Nothing we do will change it. But the future is in front of us. Believe that what we give to the world, the world will give to us. And from today on, let’s be the owners of ourselves, and speak out “We are the world, we are the future.”英文三分鐘演講稿13The past ages of man have all been carefully labelled by anthropologists人類學(xué)家. Descriptions like “Palaeolithic Man”. “Neolithic Man”, etc., neatly sum up whole periods. When the time es for anthropologists to turn their attention to the twentieth century, they will surely choose the label “Legless Man”. Histories of the time will go something like this:“ In the twentieth century, people forgot how to use their legs. Men and women moved about in cars, buses and trains from a very early age. There were lifts and escalators in all large building to prevent people from walking. This situation was forced upon earthdwellers of that time because of their extraordinary way of life. In those days, people thought nothing of travelling hundreds of miles each the surprising thing is that they didn39。t use their legs even when they went on built cable railways, skilifts滑雪索道 and roads to the top of every huge the beauty spots on earth were marred by the presence of large car parks.”The future history books might also record that we were deprived of the use of our our hurry to get from one place to another,we failed to see anything on the travel gives you a bird39。seye view of the worldor even less if the wing of the aircraft happens to get in your you travel by car or train a blurred image of the countryside constantly smears the drivers,in particular, are forever obsessed with the urge to go on and never want to it the lure of the great motorways,or what? And as for sea travel,it hardly deserves is perfectly summed up in the words of the old song:“I joined the navy to see the world, and what did I see?I saw the sea.”The typical twentiethcentury traveller is the man who always says “I39。ve been there.”You mention the remotest, most evocative placenames in the world like El Dorado,Kabul,Irkutsk and someone is bound to say “I39。ve been there”meaning,“I drove through it at 100 miles an hour on the way to somewhere else.”When you travel at high speeds, the present means nothing: you live mainly in the future because you spend most of your time lookiong forward to arriving at some other place. But actual arrival, when it is achieved, is meaningless. You want to move on again. By travelling like this, you suspend all experience。 the present ceased to be a reality: you might just as well be dead. The traveller on foot, on the other hand, lives constantly in the present. For him travelling and arriving are one and the same thing: he arrives somewhere with every step he makes. He experiences the present moment with his eyes, his ears and the whole of his body. At the end of his journey he feels a delicious physical weariness. He knows that sound, satisfying sleep will be his: the just reward of all true travellers.英文三分鐘演講稿14Travel is a very good means of broadening a person’s perspective.
