【導(dǎo)讀】butalso應(yīng)連接兩個(gè)相對(duì)稱的并列成分。butalso之后的成分與notonly之后的成分不對(duì)稱。butalso連接兩個(gè)主語時(shí)，謂語動(dòng)詞要和與其最近的主語保持人稱。butalso中的notonly不能分開使用，但butalso卻可以分開使。這孩子既健康又活潑。這件事不但與我有關(guān)，而且也與你有關(guān)。
【正文】 9. 也可用 merely， just， simply 等替代 not only … but also 中的 only .例如： They not merely （ or just， simply ） broke into his office and stole his books but also tore up his manuscripts. 10. not only A but also B = B as well as A， 但前者的強(qiáng)調(diào)重點(diǎn)在 B ；后者的強(qiáng)調(diào)重點(diǎn)也在 B .（漢譯時(shí)，要先譯 as well as 后面的詞）例如： The child is not only healthy but also lively. （ = The child is lively as well as healthy. ） 這孩子既健康又活潑。 It concerns not only me but also you. （ = It concerns you as well as me. ） 這件事不但與我有關(guān)，而且也與你有關(guān)。
