【正文】 maker. People realize that China should be modernized, just like west, but they do not know how. Cultural conflict sometimes is hard. In this case, draw lessons from western country especially America is wise, “ The stone of other hill can polish the jade of ours” (他山之石 可以攻玉 ), just as one of the old saying goes. Secondly, we can not avoid one fact when we learn foreign languages we are learning different culture which is much more important than the language itself. What do we really learn when we study about other cultures? First and foremost, we learn about our own. Until we are confronted by a different way of doing things, we assume that everyone does things the same way that we do, and thus our own culture – our values, attitudes, behavior is largely hidden from our view. When we spend some time analyzing another culture, however, we begin to see our own more clearly and to understand some of the subtleties(微妙) that motivate our behavior and our opinions. Therefore, you cannot help but begin to understand yourself and your own cultures better as a result. For example, Mr. Lu Xun(魯迅 ), China’ s great modern writer and thinker, wrote a lot of essays and novels about the nature of Chinese people, after studying in Japan and pared the different cultures between China and west. Some of his works such as “ Mad Man’ s Diary” (狂人日記 ), “ Ah Q’ s Story”(阿 Q正傳) , and “ New Year’ s Description”(祥林嫂) have inspired several generations of Chinese people, and have also been the good help for western people to understand ours. Thirdly and last, in this era of globalization, there are always opportunities for exploiting one’ s “ foreignness” , especially when it bees a real challenge of our life. The best way is to accept the challenge of social change bravely, regardless of “ like” or “ dislike” of another culture. For our Chinese people’ s “ foreignness” , nothing is more than Marxism which has a profound impact on modern China and has merged into our culture. This is what I was reminded sitting in front of the pictures of Marx and Engels when I was visiting the home of Marx in Germany. Although where will our socialist motherland go and what our modern China’ s value will be are still confused me, I have full confidence in China39。s future ! END 演講完畢,謝謝觀看!
