Department of Geography , Guangzhou University , Guangzhou 510405 , China)Abstract : Karst caves in Guangdong Province , South China , are distributed mainly in Shaoguan and Qingyuan. Karstifica2tion intensely happened in pure and thick carbonate rock strata . The density and the dimension of the caves are evidently connected with the geomorphic feature and water resources. Big caves increase in karst mountains , platforms , river valley of plains between2mountain basins and the areas abounding in drainage . The great and long caves are distributed usually over riverside or upper and middle reaches , while the small ones along the lower reaches and far away from the riverbank. Geo2 logical structures are important factors in cave development . Many caves lay in cores and limbs of the folds , and often par2 allel or coincide with the fold axis. The karstification processes occur along the belts of fracture and fault too . Because im2 pacted by the interrupted vertical movement and controlled by the releasing base level of the karst , they often form horizon2 tal caves having many layers in river bank. Some caves have storey textures , which indicate the period and phase of the karstification . The investigation reveals that climate conditions such as precipitation , evapotranspiration and air temperature are the major factors of caves growing. Under normal conditions , when the climate is damp and hot , with abundant rainfall and high temperature , karstification is intensely developed.Key words : Guangdong Province 。 Karst cave 。 Karstification“海上絲綢之路與廣州港”學(xué)術(shù)研討會在穗召開由廣州炎黃文化研究會 、市委宣傳部 、荔灣區(qū)政府 、廣州港務(wù)局等 9 單位主辦的 “海上絲綢之路與廣州港”學(xué)術(shù)研討會 ,經(jīng)過近 1 年的籌備 , 于 2002 年 1 月 12～13 日在廣州舉行 。中國海外交通歷史研究會 、中國對外關(guān)系史研究會 、中國第一歷史檔案館 、交通部水運科學(xué)研究院及港 、澳 、川 、寧 、閩 、粵的學(xué)者近百人參加了這次盛會 , 新華社 、人民日報 、光明日報 、中央電視臺及粵 、港 、澳的新聞媒體 10 家采訪了會議及作了詳細報道 。廣東地學(xué)界的中山大學(xué) 、廣州地理研究所 、南海海洋研究所 、華南師范大學(xué) 、暨南大學(xué) 、廣州大學(xué) 、廣州市地方志辦公室等共十余位專家在會上宣讀了論文 。大家認為 , 廣州作 為二千多年長盛不衰的對外港口有其地理 、歷史 、經(jīng)濟原因 。應(yīng)進一步發(fā)掘作為海上絲綢之路樞紐港 、始發(fā)港的物證和史料 。李平日 (廣州地理研究所)
