f feminine disposition and helpless personality. The potentiality of femininity only exists in their marriage. And it often es true in their infinite dependence and subordination.[4] At that time, this is a general rule in their society. In particular, in a family which has an outstanding condition, men can dominate the fate of the entire family. In the novel of Wuthering Heights, Catherine lived in such a society and family39。s framework. At home, Catherine is a heterogeneous child who always makes her parents and servants feel very disappointed. Just because of this, her feelings are difficult for other people to understand and appreciate. The surface of her family’s harmony makes her pride and enthusiasm hard to put to good use, so when she grew up, the impulse of her heart always attempts to break through the constraint of her family which the surface of the family39。s seems like harmony and abundant. In her childhood, Catherine39。s selfawareness and enthusiasm is repressed. The more her family loves her, the more deeply she loses her way. Even her father39。s death can not arouse her grief either. There is a bright contrast between the inanimate atmosphere of her family and her rebellious character. She set herself against a lot of people. Subconsciously, Catherine39。s disparaging attitude and act of violence are the performance of chasing an independent personality. She continued to struggling and clamoring. However, this kind of behavior was treated as the performance of the children39。 mischief. In the long run, the soul of a desire of freedom is suppressed unwittingly. Her selfawareness remains in the muddleheaded state all the time. She does not understand what her inner needs。 she also does not know how to meet her needs.[1] The lonely childhood profoundly affects her later life and her decision. As soon as she realized these, she would bee very upset. The more she is familiar with herself, the more pain will be in her mind. At last, the graver her tragic life will be. Youthful Catherine——Negative StageDay after day, the former willful and effeminate little girl had bee a charming and beautiful lady. While at this moment, she had already set up an inextricable sentiment together with Heathcliff. This affection sublimated to love unwittingly. They love each other very much and they have the same spirit. However, happy day were always very short. This harmonious environment soon was broken. The trip to Thrush cross Grange has stirred up the inner turmoil of Catherine. The luxury and harmonious of Thrush cross Grange and the rough and free of Wuthering Height have formed a distinct contrast. The generosity of Mrs. Linton, the naivety and romantic of Miss. Linton and the tender grace of Mr. Linton all fascinate Catherine profoundly. The temporary satisfaction of pride and vanity makes the emotional balance of Catherine bee to slope. The love to Heathcliff and Linton changed Catherine’s inner heart slowly. One can bring her an enjoyment of privileged stratum, the other is an orphan from Liverpool39。s slum. If she marries to the former, she will bee the richest and the most noble39。s wife. It also can satisfy her need of socialization. However, the bination with the latter, she will be cut off from these high position and great wealth, but she is able to live out her true self. Finally, Catherine made a smart decision which could fulfill her material need, that is, to marry with Linton and then help Heathcliff out of trouble. In fact, this is only excuse for her to go in quest of her inner balance. Once doing this decision, she will turn a daughter who depends on her parents into a wife depends on her husband. Supposing that the next things do not happen, Catherine39。s decision may be a good choice which is in line with the view of woman39。s happiness. The traditional thought of European nobleman flatter The Female Leisure Theory, they deemed that women do not need to work。 women could make themselves attach to man through their marriage。 it is very necessary for them to depend on their husbands39。 achievement to establish their own social image.[6] We can not deny the fact that the heart of Catherine also experienced the fierce ideological struggle when she made such a decision. As a female, this struggle is the contradiction between herself need and herself denial. She clearly knew that the relationship between she and Linton was similar to water and fire, which would never be patible. She hates heaven, and she is fond of natural creatures. She knew that heather trees and cliff are her heaven. Only in this way can she make her own feelings seek out her real habitat. Nevertheless, at last, she rebelled against Heathcliff and her nature, and went over to the arms of Linton who can bring her rich material forts, but could not afford Catherine to live a truly happy life. From the choice we saw, it is said that the temperament of Catherine was repressed and thwarted unconsciously in her childhood. But before such a great temptation, as a mature adult, she denied her inner needs without hesitation. No matter what decision we make, it is no wonder that we should pay the price. So does Catherine. The negative choice she made put her on the way of selfdestruction. Mature Catherine——Disillusioned and Destructive StageCatherine denied herself emotions, which changed the inner spirit of Catherine bee very desolate. She turned into a selfaffected and dejected woman.About half a year later, there is no fire to explode the gunpowder so the gunpowder is very safety under the clay. Sometimes Catherine would be very gloomy and silent. With sympathy and silence, Catherine39。s husband thought why Catherine became so depressed was because she got ill that caused her constitution getting weaken. Before she got ill, she never had the despondent appearance on her face. The happiness will be over when a variety of things cause both parties feel one party39。s interests is not what the other party thinks in
