【正文】 a big effort, from then on, to always be on time for his lectures, which I39。m happy to say I have been up to now! When and where you attended the class? What the teacher taught? What you did during the class? And explain how you felt about the class.Ok, well to tell you the truth, I honestly don39。t really remember any of my maths classes at primary school that well at all, because it39。s been such a long time since I took them. But I suppose one class that I have at least a vague memory of was my very first maths class, so that39。s what I39。m gonna talk to you about. And as for when I attended the class, well I suppose I must have been about six or seven years old, because that39。s the age when most children start primary school here in China. And regarding what the teacher taught us in that class, well if truth be told, I can39。t actually remember a thing he taught us, and I would be lying if I said I did! I mean, all I remember is him introducing himself and giving us our new text books. But in terms of the maths itself, I literally can39。t remember a word he said, because all we did was just go through the textbook. But my guess would be that we just did basic equations, you know, like two plus two equals four, three times three equals nine, because at that age we could only handle very simple arithmetic.Anyway, as for how I felt about the class, well to put it simply, it left no impression on me at all, because I mean, I think for any child of that age, simply just ploughing through the textbook in class is mindnumbingly boring! You know, when we39。re that young, we kind of need a bit more stimulation and excitement to concentrate. So I think it would have been a lot more fun if the teacher had given some practical examples of how we could actually use maths in our everyday lives, as this would have helped spark my interest. You know, it would have made the maths e alive a bit more. But as I mentioned just now, all we did was just look at equations in the text book, without having any idea of their relevance to our lives. So I kinda just switched off in all of my maths classes, cos they were all as bad as each other, unfortunately!Notes:have a vague memory = remember … vaguely 模糊的印象if truth be told = to tell you the truth 老實說my guess would be that = I guess 我覺得to put it simply = in short 簡言之it left no impression on me = 毫無印象plough through = 費勁吃力地查閱mindnumbingly boring = 使人思想麻木的無聊spark one’s interest = 激發(fā)興趣I kinda just switched off = 我有點兒走神了 Describe a special meal you were invited to.You should say:? When and where you were invited? Who invited you? What you ate? And explain how you felt about the meal.Ok then, well I39。m actually quite lucky in the fact that I39。ve been invited to quite a number of special meals, and the one I39。ve decided to talk to you about was a farewell dinner of a good friend of mine, because he was about to go off to Canada for a few years to start university there, so he invited a few of his close friends for a farewell dinner before heading off. And one of the reasons I39。ve chosen to talk about this meal instead of some of the others I39。ve been to is simply that it39。s still quite fresh in my memory. You know, it was only about a couple of weeks ago when it happened. And as for where we had the meal, well I can39。t remember the exact name of the place, but it was quite a posh restaurant somewhere in the centre of the city, and judging from how nice it looked when I walked in, it seemed to be a pretty expensive place to dine. So I was kind of relieved that it wouldn39。t be me footing the bill! And we also had our own separate room, which was nice, and probably just as well, seeing as we made quite a bit of noise during the meal, what with all the laughing and stuff going on.Anyway regarding what we ate, well I couldn39。t tell you every single dish that we had, because there was just so much, you know, the whole table was literally covered with food. I mean, there was crab, chicken, duck, what else, um … oh yeah, shrimps, and, uh … oh and a whole load of different vegetables. So by the end of it, I was absolutely stuffed. You know, we all ate masses, because the food was so good, and it would have been a bit of a pity to see it go to waste! But anyway, finally then, with regard to how I felt about the meal, well to put it simply, I really enjoyed it. Because as well as the food, which was fantastic, I really enjoyed everyone39。s pany. You know, it was great being together with so many good friends, many of which I hadn39。t seen in quite a while. So yeah, all in all, it was a really special evening, and I39。m extremely grateful to have been invited, and also very grateful to my friend for his generosity, as the bill must have e to quite a lot, I39。m sure!Notes:Ok then = Ok, (I39。m ready to begin). You can also say, “Ok right then” or “Right then”in the fact that = because 因為go off = head off 離開it39。s still quite fresh in my memory = I can remember it pretty clearly 記憶猶新posh restaurant = 豪華飯店foot the bill = pay the bill (買單)it was just as well = 幸虧如此seeing as = 鑒于,考慮到quite a bit of = quite a lot of 很多a whole load of = loads of = lots of 很多by the end of it = in the end 到最后I was absolutely stuffed = 我撐死了!we all ate masses = 我們都吃了好多to put it simply = in short 簡言之quite a while = quite a long time 很久as the bill must have e to quite a lot = the bill must have been expensive 一定很貴so yeah = 所以嗯 (often used at the beginning of the final sentence when you’re finishing your talk/answer
