and i believe peace is the heart of what we in britain ask our government to safeguard. peace in industry has enabled people to honour living without fear of intimidation or been called out on strike against their will and without a ballot. peace of mind，that es with knowing that this will continue to be a safe country，a good place for us to live and for our children to grow up in. peace that es from being independent and being able to run your life and spend your own money in your own way，above all，the peace of a country that is properly defended against any adversary，thatamp。39。s what this government and this people in partnership have been building for the past eight all of it will vanish unless we preserve the economic strength，the strong defence and spirit of enterprise that have made us prosperous at home and respected throughout the world. it is that which is at issue on thursday. of course，we feel passionately about it because for us it is about the very heat and soul of britain.
我相信，捍衛(wèi)和平是英國(guó)人民要求政府工作的核心任務(wù)。工業(yè)和平維護(hù)人生尊嚴(yán)，免受威言恫嚇之憂(yōu)與強(qiáng)迫罷工選舉之苦。心境和平意指知曉無(wú)論對(duì)人民生活還是兒童成長(zhǎng)，我們都將繼續(xù)作為一個(gè)安全的國(guó)度和良好的居所而存在。和平來(lái)自獨(dú)立，來(lái)自按自己的方式生活消費(fèi)。總之，維護(hù)國(guó)家和平就要徹底防御外敵，這也正是本屆政府與人民在過(guò)去8年同心同德所取得的成就。然而，只有繼續(xù)保持經(jīng)濟(jì)實(shí)力、鞏固國(guó)防力量、促進(jìn)進(jìn)取精神，這些成就才不會(huì)付諸東流，正是它們使我們贏得了國(guó)內(nèi)的繁榮和世界的尊重。這也是本周四即將探討的話(huà)題。的確，對(duì)這一話(huà)題我們深有感慨，因?yàn)樗P(guān)乎英國(guó)真正的精神與靈魂
