The Hong Kong translation is 雷霆救兵，which literally means ‘ saving the soldiers in a thunderous way or in a thunderbolt.’ The four syllables make it sound more rhythmical and easier to remember. On the other hand, the mainland title of Saving Private Ryan is 拯救大兵瑞恩. This translation, as it were, leaves nothing to the imagination.”(Tse, 2005) Another example is the translation of the movie The Accused. The Hong Kong translation is 暴劫梨花 and the mainland version is 被告, which is simply a direct translation. The Hong Kong translation consists of two parts: 暴劫 and 梨花, where 暴劫 roughly means ravaged or devastated and 梨花, which literally means “pear flowers,” is often used to mean a fragile woman. There is the mon expression “梨花帶雨” ( a woman in tears) condensed from Bai Juyi’s ( 白居易 )：梨花一支春帶雨. The latter leaves the audience an imaginary space. Movie Lolita is adapted form the long novel Lolita. The early translation was 洛麗塔. The new version showed on in 1997. The new title translation of 一樹梨花壓海棠was translated by Taiwan. 一樹梨花壓海棠es from the poem which was written by Su Shi: “十八新娘八十郎，蒼蒼白發(fā)對(duì)紅妝。Wai Wu: “萇弘死于蜀，茂其血，三年而化為。 secondly, its content is succinct and vivid。 because of the difference of cultural background sometimes is hard to express the exact meaning by literal translation. To deal with this kind of translation, retranslating can be used. Free translation emphasizes the theme of the movie instead of its form of the title. That means to change the form of the title in order to keep the meaning of the title. Look at the examples as follows: The literal translation title of movie MR. Holland’s Opus is 賀蘭先生的作品. However, paring with the former, the free translation 春風(fēng)化雨 is more meaningful. The movie tells a story of an ordinary musical teacher. However, from this story the audience could learn the teacher’s personality of persistent efforts to solve any problem and salutary influence of education. “春風(fēng)化雨” means a better education in Chinese idioms. From this Chinese title, the audience would think of teachers and respect them. The original title translation of American disaster movie Earthquake is 地震. This title translation makes most audience misunderstand it as a science and educational movie. Therefore, when it shows on in Shanghai it is changed into a vivid Chinese title 驚魂奪命 which vividly shows the scenes of dark all round, house and building shaking ceaselessly in the earthquake. Here is another American movie with a long title “Everything You Always Wanted to Know about Sex but Afraid to Ask(你所有想要知道的但是又不敢開口啟問的性愛問題)” (Bao, 2001) The title would be long and boring if translated in literal translation. Thanks to skill of free translation, this long title could be translated into 性愛寶典 which is more appropriate and brief, implicit and elegant. Special skills In some condition, the basic skills produce little effect in movie titles nowadays. In this case, in this part I will put forward some new skills to deal with some special movie titles. Initialism or abbreviationThis method which is always used in famous movies is that the first letters of each word of original titles are bined into a new word. An excellent title can play the role of adding the finishing touch, attracting audience and giving audience much food for thought. Movie titles are often pared to the door lintel of movies, as they not only reflect the central thought of movies but also attract the audience with brief and novel forms. The past two decades have witnessed vast development in movie translation. However, being a special and significant part of translation, movie translation is an area that is far from being explored. Few monographs at home and abroad have discussed this topic. It seems that no one has so far offered a systematic and feasible principle to pilot movie title translation. In this situation, this paper goes deep into many west movie title translations in recent years and refines some of the translations, summarizing and posing new principles, so that the movie title translati
