【正文】 tinum, and lateblooming harvest flowers breathed into the motionless air aromas that were like low, halfheard laughter. The open country carpeted for rods around with bright wheat, was translucent as in the day. It was almost impossible not to be affected by the sheer beauty of the skyalmost” 7 This is a charming description of the setting. The author used personification here to show Benjamin’s emotion. The scenery fully showed Benjamin’s feelings when he met Hildegarde Moncrief. 7 When Benjamin was twenty, he is like a fifty years old man. When Benjamin saw Hildegarde in a party, his first love came. Benjamin’s love dream began. Hildegarde was the daughter of General Moncrief. Besides, she was a very young and charming girl. Although Benjamin was in love with her, he thought he had no courage and hope to get the girl’s love. Otherwise, the goddess of love seemed to help Benjamin. Hildegarde was also in love with Benjamin because she thought Benjamin was mature and that was amazing. Later, Benjamin and Hildegarde were together no matter what others said. Actually, they did not understand each other. Benjamin loved the girl because of her beauty and Hildegarde loved the man because of his age. The author showed the love of that time, a tragedy love. However, the love established in table could not be tested by time. At the beginning, Benjamin was admired her, but as the years passed, when the beauty of his wife has ceased to exist, Benjamin began to feel tired. Finally, Hildegarde was unable to meet Benjamin39。 however, the American transcendental superiority has bee the experiential superiority and the humble feelings lacking transcendent. For normal Americans, the American dream has been a nightmare that cannot be realized. The development of American literature reflects the different kinds of breaking of American dream well. Of all the writers, Fitzgerald is one of the best writers who describe how the American dream bees a nightmare. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is an extraordinary short novel. Although it is not the most important masterpiece of Fitzgerald, it was also studied and was even made into a film. As a love story, it shows how time destroys love and how love revenges people. From the social point of view, this story is against the clock and that is the most distinctive part. It is a story about Benjamin Button, who was born as a 4 seventy years old man and died as a newborn baby. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button was written in 1922, when the American economic developed quickly. Americans are immersed in the American dream they have realized. The author showed the breaking of American dream using Benjamin’s dark birth. This novel reflects the breaking of American dream from three aspects: human relations, honorable reputation and dream. Benjamin was born in a different way. To be a normal person, he became a successful businessman, war hero, college athlete, and married a beautiful woman in town, in spite of that, Benjamin was still lost him in this world. F. Scott Fitzgerald’s words also showed that Benjamin’s tragedy. “The story was inspired by a remark of Mark Twain’s to the effect that it was a pity that the best part of life came at the beginning and the worst part at the end.” This thesis includes three chapters. The first chapter shows the relations between Benjamin and his father, wife, son. All of his life had contradiction with others. Although he tried his best to be normal, he was still not accepted by others. The second chapter describes Benjamin’s honorable reputation in different stages. To get honorable reputation, Benjamin went to the war, went to the college and did business. At last, he was rejected though he was accepted before. The third chapter is about Benjamin’s dream. Benjamin had his dream, and his dream was always changing with his growing. Eventually, he fot all the things and he died as a baby, just like American dream that all the dreams would bee unreal image. To conclude, Benjamin had I strange life. Although he became younger and younger, he could not have perfect life. Life, as American dream’s disillusionment, you obtain, but finally lose. The author tells people: all surfaces will disappear. 5 Chapter One Human Relations When people are born, there are different kinds of relationships. Benjamin Button is the major role in this novel. Since he was born, he had all kinds of plex relations with others. The most important relationships in this novel are the relations between Benjamin and his father, wife and son. In America, the respect, love and independence among people are very important. However, Benjamin was in a rejecting and blaming situation. His father could not treat him as a son。 【關(guān)鍵詞 】 菲茨杰拉德 《本杰明?巴頓的人生奇旅》 美國夢 v Contents Introduction………………………………………………………………………… 1 Chapter One Human Relations……… ………………………………………… ....5 A.
