【正文】 Tiger, Hidden Dragon(臥虎藏龍)got the Best NonEnglish Language Movie Prize of Oscar in 2001, which broke the record of boxoffice value of the nonEnglish movies. They directly translated “龍” in the Chinese movie’s title into “dragon”, which shows that the Chinese cultural connotation of the Chinese “龍” , dragon, with a mendatory sense, has already been accepted by foreigners nowadays, though it was often changed into tiger in English or something like it in the past. This year, the third part of a famous movie Mummy(木乃伊) will be produced in August in Xi An, a historically famous city in China. The main actor of this movie is the famous Chinese star Li Lianjie. The name of this part is Mummy3 : The Curse of Dragon(木乃伊3:龍的詛咒). I believe this movie will be a great success, and the Chinese cultural connotation of dragon will make another great sensation in the world. At that time, the Chinese dragon and its Chinese cultural connotation will be well known by more foreigners all over the world. 5. ConclusionThis paper analyses the cultural connotations between the English and Chinese animal words, and pares the animal images and their cultural connotations. We have learned that animal words have their own features and cultural connotations in their own languages. Some of their cultural connotations and images are the same, but most of them are different, and some even exist only in their own language and make the vacancies between the two languages. These differences are caused by religion, history, geographical environment, customs, and so on. We can not always translate directly the animal words of the original from the source language into the target language. We must be well acquainted with the habits and environments of both the source language and the target language before translating them into the target language, and try our best to know the cultural connotations carried by animal words. In the process of translation, we should pay special attention to the cultural connotations of animal words of the two languages, keep objectivity of the original and shun subjectivity. Only in this way, can we translate properly both the real meaning and the style of the original from the source language into the target language. Bibliography1. Chen Wenbo.
