When anthropologists speak of culture, they do not mean the literary and artistic achievements and standards of cultured elites, but the total socially acquired lifestyle of a group people including patterned, repetitive ways of thinking, feeling, and acting. A mon view of culture is that of something learned, transmitted, passed down from one generation to the next, through human actions, often in the form of facetoface interaction, and, of course, through linguistic munication.Since culture is highly plex, it is not easy to give an exact definition, and there are many definitions have been suggested for culture, but none of them seems to be able to tell us everything about culture. The following definitions are just some of the wellknown ones.The first profound scientific definition of the concept “culture” was put forward by Sir Edward Burnett Tylor. According to him, culture is “that plex whole which includes knowledge, belief, art, moral, law, custom, and any other capabilities and habits acquired by a man as a member of society” (Tylor, E. B, 1924).Geert Hofstede views culture from a psychological perspective, defining it as “the collective programming of the mind which distinguishes the members of one category of people from another”. He refers to culture as “software of the mind” (Geert Hofstede, 1997).For example, Sapir(1921) defines culture as “What a society does and thinks.” And in Hall’s opinion, Culture is “man’s medium。 instead, it’s a form of English which reflects certain social functions and is applied to the business contexts. Therefore, it is particularly important for Business English major students to strive to improve their professional business knowledge and the skills of crosscultural munication. Meanwhile, more and more theories on Intercultural Communication Competence have been introduced into China, and Business English teaching in China has begun to put emphasis on the cultivation of students’ ICC, but the results are far from satisfactory. Therefore, this thesis makes an attempt on the content and measures of the cultivation of students’ ICC in the learning of Business English.This paper is a good study of the basic content of ICC, the importance of ICC in Business English learning. It introduces the definitions and characteristics of munication, culture and intercultural munication, discusses the connotations and ponents of ICC. Based on the discussion on ICC, this paper explores the importance and necessity of ICC, and finally puts forward some strategies on how to cultivate ICC in the learning of business English.
