Li ke other deer they l i ve together and eat grass and the soft parts of tres such as sm al lu deer were often hunted for fod or sport i n the past. The ,Ming and Qing dynasti es di d not protect them and many were kil led. That i s how the Mil u deer di sappeared from Chi na. Luckil y before al of them were ki l ed, som e were taken to Bri tai n to im prove the envi ronm ent of the beauti ful park whi ch bel onged to the Duke of e li ked them so m uch that he tok them al l the way from China to Mil u deer li ked the cool, wet weather i n England and thei r number increased year by year. As a resul t, when in 1985 the governm ent of Chi na wanted to rei ntroduce the Mi lu deer, the Duke of Bedford was happy to fi rst deer cam e back to Chi na to the Nanhaizi Mil u Park 20 kil ometers south of Beiji ng and the centre in Dafeng,Ji ngsu Provi nce. The der centai nl y sem happy to be back in China because thei r num bers have grown rapi dl y. There are now so m any of them that a new park has been opened for them i n H ebei Provi nce. At the m om ent the Mi lu deer li ve i n centres where they are bei ng wel protected and care for .It is hoped that one day there wi l be enough anim al s to l et them li ve i n the wi ld agai n. But just now do peopl e form a band? Many musi ci ans m et and form a band because they li ke to wri te and play thei r own musi c. They m ay start as a group of hi ghschol students, for whom practi si ng their musi c i n som eone’s house is the fi rst step to fam e. Som etimes they may pl ay to passersby i n the stret or subway so that they can earn som e extra m oney for themsel ves or to pay for their i nstrum ents. Later they m ay give performances in pubs or cl ubs, for whi ch they are pai d i n cash. Of course they hope to m ake records i n a studio and sel mi li ons of copi es to be e mil li onaires! H owever, there was one band that started i n a different way. It was cal ed the Monkes and began as a TV show. The m usi ci ans were to play jokes on each other as wel as pl ay m usi c, m ost of which was based l osel y on the Beatl es. The TV anizer had planned to find four musi ci ans who coul d act as wel l as sing. They put an adverti sem ent i n a newspaper looki ng for rock m usi ci ans, but they coul d onl y fi nd one who was good enough. They had to use actors for the other three mem bers of theband. As some of these actors coul d not sing wel l enough, they had to rely on other m usi ci ans to hel p them . So during the broadcasts they just pretended to sing. Anyhow their performances were hum orous enough to be copi ed by other groups. They were so popul ar that their fans formed clubs in order to get more famil iar with them. Each week on TV, the Monkees woul d play and si ng songs written by other m usi ci ans. H owever, after a year or so in whi ch they becam e m ore seri ous about their work, the Monkees started to play and si ng thei r own songs l ike a real band. Then they produced thei r own records and started touring and pl aying thei r own m usic. In the USA they became even m ore popular than the Beatl es and sol d even m ore records. The band broke up about 1970, but happi ly they reuni ted i n the mi d1980s. They produced a new record i n 196, wi th whi ch they cel ebrated their form er time as a real band. Freddy the frog(Ⅱ) N ot l ong after Freddy and the band becam e famous, they visited Bri tain on a bri ef tour. Fans showed thei r devoti on by wai ti ng for hours to get ti ckets for their concerts . Freddy was now qui te confi dent when he went into a concert hal . H e enjoyed singi ng and al the congratul ations afterwards! Hi s m ost exci ti ng i nvi tati on was to perform on a TV programm e cal ed “ Top of pops “. H e had to go to London, wear an expensi ve suit and gi ve a perform ance to a TV camera. It fel t very strange. But as soon as the programme was over, the tel ephones which were i n the same rom started ri nging. Everybody was asking when they could see Freddy and hi s band agai n. They were truly stars. Then thi ngs went wrong. Freddy and his band could not go out anywhere wi thout being fol lowed. Even when they wore sungl asses or beards people recogni zed them. Fans found them even when they went i nto toi let. They tried to hide in the reading roms of li brari es, but it was useles. Someone was always there! Thei r personal ife was regul arly di scused by people who did not know them but tal ked as i f they close friends. At last feeling very upset and sensi ti ve, Freddy and his band reali zed that they must leave the country before it became too painful for them.
