The Chinese classical poetry is of great significance in traditional Chinese civilization. 14 As China gets increasingly engaged onto the international arena, the essence of Chinese civilization— Chinese classical poetry— should be popularized. By quoting Chinese classical poetry in press conference, the world can have a more prehensive and clear understanding about China’s yesterday and today. With China’s development gaining full steam, people’s living standards and individual education background have been notably strengthened. The speakers, especially China’s leaders who speak in press conference, have the inspiration and ability to quote Chinese classical poetry. Poetry has consistently been held in extremely high regard, in China, often incorporating wonderfully expressive folk influences filtered through the minds of Chinese literati. Conference interpreting, the pyramid of interpreting, is a profession which serves for the bilingual or multilingual munications and crosscultural exchanges. It is the interpretation of a conference, simultaneously or consecutively. There are many studies in Chinese classical poetry interpreting at home. Chinese classical poetry interpreting studies in China can be dated back to the twentieth century. As early as 1984, Zhu Guangqian expressed his opinion on Chinese classical poetry. He made an explanation on Chinese classical poetry. Poetry is pure literature with temperament. In 20xx, Liu Miqing published a book, called Contemporary Translation Theory. His point of view is that interpreting literally means “explanation” and that interpreting has the task of translating. The principle of interpreting is “explanation” or something like that. In 20xx, Zhu Shuyu wrote a book called Application of Relevance Theory in Interpreting, which dealt with the main characteristics of conference interpreting. The author expressed three main characteristics, namely unpredictability, pressure, and responsibility. In the meantime, many other scholars and experts conducted researches in this field. It is believed by Lu Hongmei in Translation of the Chinese Culture and English Culture (20xx) that mastering the language and its affiliated culture is the only way to successful interpreting. She thinks that language belongs to culture and plays an indispensable role in the culture. At the same time, she also pares the differences between the Chinese and English in many respects, and stresses the significance of carrying forward the Chinese culture and bringing it unto the international arena. With China’s economy developing with full steam, China’s participation in the international munity has been more frequent than ever before. There are more and more opportunities for China to conduct exchanges with the world, hence press conferences are held frequently. As a result, there will be increasingly important studies in Chinese classical poetry interpreting in press conference in the future. Review on previous studies in Chinese classical poetry interpreting in foreign countries There are also many studies in Chinese classical poetry interpreting abroad. In the regard of Chinese classical poetry interpreting researches in the international munity, more studies have been conducted. It is noted that William James, the first scholar to give a definition to attention in interpreting, once expressed in his The principles of Psychology that attention in interpreting is the taking possession by the mind, in clear and vivid form. Focalization, concentration of consciousness is its essence. It implies withdrawal from some things in order to deal effectively with others and is a condition which has a real opposite in the confused, dazed, scatterbrain state. From William James, a clear definition is given. In press conference interpreting, the interpreter must focus on the speech delivered by the speaker wholeheartedly. Any distraction from the interpreter’s focus, mistakes will be made or the audience will doubt the interpreter’s capability. As a result, attention is a significant element affecting the reproduction of Chinese classical poetry interpreting in press conference. In 1984, Gile published a book, called Basic Concepts and Models for Interpreter and Translator Training. He mainly dealt with the working differences between interpreting and translating.
