【正文】 act various aspects of second language learning.“Culture in language learning is not an expendable fifth skill, tacked on, so to speak, to the teaching of speaking, listening, reading, and writing. It is always in the background, right from the first day, ready to unsettle the good language learners when they expect it least, making evident the limitations of their hardwon municative petence, challenging their ability to make sense of the world around them.” (Kramsch, 1996). Researches at homeIn China, it’s just since the 1980s that scholars and experts have recognized the importance of cultural cultivating in foreign language education. In early 1980s, Mr. Xu Guozhang gave a speech titled the Cultural Connotation of Words and English Teaching and after that he published his famous work Culturallyloaded Words and English Language Teaching. It indicated that many words have different surface meanings owning to different cultural traditions. At that time some articles on cultural cultivating and foreign language teaching were published. Hu Wenzhong is monly regarded as one of the pioneers who advocate teaching of culture in foreign language education. In 1988, Mr. Hu Wenzhong published his essay collections CrossCultural Communication and English Study. It collected some essays on the parison study on English and Chinese culture. In 1989, Deng Yanchang and liu Runqing edited Language and Culturethe parison between English and Chinese culture. The work made a parison between the different vocabulary, idioms, culture and body languages of the two languages.2. Language and culture What is language To give the simple definition, “l(fā)anguage is a means of verbal munication.” (Hu zhuanglin, 2006:3) “Language is a systematic means of municating ideas or feelings by the use of conventionalized signs, sounds, gestures, remarks having understood meanings.” (Luo Changpei, 1989) Many animal and even plant species municate with each other. Humans are not unique in this capability. However, human language is unique in being a symbolic munication system that is learned instead of biologically inherited. Basically, it is the symbols we use in order to municate with one another. We all learn language, but there is something difference on account of different countries, different cultural background. We municate with others by using different language from different countries. Even the language is same, but some words and meanings of two kinds of language are different, not the pletely same. What is cultureThe word “culture” has many different meanings. For some it refers to an appreciation of good literature, music, art, and food. Culture: learned and shared human patterns or models for living。為了改善中學(xué)英語教學(xué)的文化教學(xué),本文提出了一些實(shí)踐的原則和有效的方法。我們的社會需要大量具有跨文化交際能力的全面的外交人才。如何使英語教學(xué)迎合社會經(jīng)濟(jì)發(fā)展的需求已經(jīng)成為了英語教師的迫切任務(wù),因此,在英語教學(xué)中發(fā)展學(xué)生的跨文化交際能力受到了更多的關(guān)注,如今已被寫入新英語課程標(biāo)準(zhǔn),中學(xué)英語教師面臨著文化與英語語言知識教學(xué)的新挑戰(zhàn),然而,由于測試系統(tǒng),教師的學(xué)術(shù)水平及學(xué)生的態(tài)度等諸多問題,文化導(dǎo)入被忽略,學(xué)生的跨文化交際能力得不到發(fā)展和提高。本文從文化的認(rèn)識入手,結(jié)合自身在五華中學(xué)實(shí)習(xí)的教學(xué)實(shí)踐引入一些有用的方法,通過分析中西文化的不同,討論如何在英語的初學(xué)階段幫助學(xué)生了解文化的不同,以及如何掌握中西語言和文化的關(guān)系,以此來培養(yǎng)學(xué)生的文化感知能力以及他們靈活運(yùn)用各種方法進(jìn)行交流的能力,使學(xué)生用英語進(jìn)行跨文化交流。 daytoday living patterns. In order to help students to get high scores in numerous exams, teachers spend a lot of time to explain vocabulary and grammar knowledge in class. In this case, students have improved their language knowledge, on the other hand their intercultural municative petence has not enhanced. In fact it has violated English teaching goal and the education for allaround development principle. Mr. Winston Bareback,the foreign language teaching expert of the USA indicated that teaching language without culture is the best way to cultivate a fool with fluent spoken language. ( He Aihua, 2005)What’s more, some teachers regard cultural teaching as their extra burden. They are not so experienced in culture instruction and not so interested in cultural teaching, the result is the intercultural awareness cultivation process badly. Meanwhile, especially the old teachers don’t have a desire to go on studying。 on the other hand, there were also a lot of students who were not well in English learning. Therefore the writer divided them into two levels, the beginning level and the high level. On the beginning level, the students were those who had a general understanding of the difference between the English culture and Chinese culture. In classroom, firstly, the writer introduced the cultural knowledge which was closelyrelated with students’ daily life or which could arouse the students’ interest in English learning. Then the writer had incorporated diversified and deep cultural background about the new lesson. The high level students would not feel boring, at the same time it could broaden their sightfield to improve their sensitivity over the difference between Chinese and English culture. Through carrying out the grading principle, they became more interested in the leadin part of each lesson. The principle of adaptabilityAdaptability means when the teacher analyzes the texts, some cultural knowledge information which is related to the text should be introduced. In fact, English culture is so extensive in notion that we are unable to cover everything about it in middle school time. At present, teachers in the middle school are used to spending much time in vocabulary, grammar and sentence structure. So the cultural acquainting is limited and even eliminated. To overe this problem, teachers can encourage students to read after class. The teacher should try to foster his students’ interest in English culture not only in Englis
