Teaching Aims: 1) The students will be able to master the pronunciation and meaning of the new words and expressions. 2) The students will understand the main ideas of Text A and can talk about their own experiences of being a freshman in the college Methodology: Communicative language teaching. Students use texts containing authentic language. Teacher is a facilitator. Students do role plays, dialogs, conversations, etc. Key Issue: 1) Lead the students to read and learn the new words especially lead them how to use these words. 2) Help the students to understand the content of the text and motivate them to discuss their own feelings. Potential Problems and Difficulties: 1) How to help the students to master so many new words which are considered dull by the students. 2) How to anize a classroom discussion or activity to help them express their own ideas in English. Teaching Aids: Tape recorder, pictures, MP4, stories, puter, projector. Teaching Procedures: Step 1: Warmup Activity Prelistening Activities: Textbook P8 Questions for Introduction: ask students if they know about any uccessful Chinese Americans in the United States, and why they are so successful. Step 2 : Lead the students to read the new words after the tape twice and correct their pronunciations while reading. And then, guide the students through the exercises, 1 focusing on certain items or leaving some exercises as the students’ homework according to the students’ levels. 1. Ask some students to read the new words to check whether they have mastered the pronunciations of the words. 2.
