Adorno認為，統(tǒng)治者出于加強對人的控制的需要，意圖用商品化的消費意識來扼殺主體的自我意識。 奧爾特加： “ 大眾是平均的人 ” ， “ 與眾不同是丟人現(xiàn)眼的。西方現(xiàn)代文化（二） 三、現(xiàn)代性與大眾文化的對立 ? “沉默的大眾”步入社會生活的前臺，成為一種巨大的社會力量。 ” ? 通俗藝術(shù)是適合于盡可能多的民眾的藝術(shù)形式。通俗藝術(shù)不是藝術(shù)創(chuàng)作的結(jié)果，而是文化工業(yè)的產(chǎn)品。 “ 享樂意味著全身心的放松，頭腦中什么也不思念 …… 實際上，享樂是一種逃避。 現(xiàn)代派藝術(shù)總是尖銳地批判不合理的現(xiàn)實，剖析人類存在的本質(zhì)。與此相對，現(xiàn)代派藝術(shù)講究獨創(chuàng)性，著意追求藝術(shù)家的個性風(fēng)格。其結(jié)果是生產(chǎn)與消費的惡性循環(huán)，即一方面通俗藝術(shù)不斷敗壞和強化大眾的現(xiàn)有趣味，另一方面，大眾的現(xiàn)有趣味又強制地規(guī)定通俗藝術(shù)的生產(chǎn)，藝術(shù)生產(chǎn)的質(zhì)量和消費者的趣味都處在停滯不前乃至下降的水平上。通俗藝術(shù)逐漸鈍化了消費者的自我意識和思維獨立性，滋長了片面追求娛樂消遣的欲望，這就是其麻痹性，掩蓋了社會矛盾的真相，消磨了人們的批判意識，在一種輕松的愉悅中，使消費者屈從于不合理的現(xiàn)實。 ?
