AbstractLanguage is a cultural carrier. Cultureloaded vocabulary plays an important role in a language. Different social backgrounds and national cultures have a great effect on the cultural connotations of vocabulary. Animals are friends of human beings. Languages of most nations contain a lot of words denoting animals, and so do Chinese and English. Along with the development and progress of human society, many animals are tamed to bee domestic animals serving people, and many others have bee people’s pets. So animals have bee part of people’s life. Animal words and idioms gradually have got their established connotations in all languages. That is, people associate their feelings and emotions, even happenings and natural phenomena with various animals, which are thought to present different characters like people, or serve as symbols. Many animals have bee a kind of symbol in people’s thinking and this symbol is reflected in the language. However, because of different geography, different religion, different history and culture, the connotations of animal words in one language do not necessarily coincide with those in another because of different outlook of life and concept of beauty in different cultures. This thesis attempts to pare the similarities and differences of animal words, blankness in associated meanings of animal words in China and Western countries, and the causes for differences and the translation methods of dealing with cultural differences. Therefore, we can not only better master and use the animal words accurately, but also understand the eastern and western cultures, promoting the crosscultural munication and translation practice.Key Words: animal words different cultures causes for differences 摘 要語言是文化的載體，不少詞匯和習(xí)語附帶著豐富的文化內(nèi)涵。動物作為人類的朋友，在人類歷史和文化發(fā)展過程中扮演了重要的角色。動物詞匯也逐漸形成特定的涵義，也就是說人們把他們的一些情感，甚至是發(fā)生的事件，自然現(xiàn)象都和動物聯(lián)系起來，認為動物能夠表現(xiàn)不同人的個性，或者是表示某些象征。許多動物已經(jīng)在人們的思維中形成某種象征，并體現(xiàn)在語言當中。然而，由于不同的地域性，不同的宗教信仰，不同的歷史和文化，不同的人生觀，以及不同的文化審美觀等方面，動物詞匯的內(nèi)涵意義會因為語言的不同而不同。 本文就中英動物習(xí)語的異同，中西文化中動物詞匯的空缺和引起中西文化差異的成因等三方面進行比較，使我們能夠更加準確、更加形象地使用動物習(xí)語，也能更好地了解中西文化，促進跨文化交際，對習(xí)語的翻譯實踐也有一定的實際意義。關(guān)鍵詞：動物詞 不同文化 不同的成因ContentsAcknowledgements……………………………………………………………………iAbstract (English)……………………………………………..…………………........iiAbstract (Chinese)……………………………………………………..……………...iv 1.
