nappropriate , the chuckles(咯咯地笑 ), giggles(傻笑 ), and outright peals(洪亮的 ) of laughter of children can emphasize their innocence(清白 ), their joyful ignorance(無知 ) of the problems of the world. Levity(輕率 ) among adults is, unfortunately, far less mon, but it is equally wele. How fortunate are the adults who can react to potentially(潛在地 ) frustrating(使人沮喪的 ) situations a collapsed(倒塌 的 ) tent(帳篷 ), a split(劈開 ) seam(縫 ) in a pair of pants(褲子 ), a surprise guest and see the sheer(全然的 ) absurdity(荒謬 ) of their attempts to maintain absolute control. Laughter expresses pleasure, 3 eases(緩和 ) tension, and lifts the spirit,. It is a gift we should all share more often. Facial(臉的 )l expression We have two different faces we can show the world. We can smile, or we can frown(皺眉 ). The face we choose to put on each day affects us a lot. Smiling is, of course, the better way to live. Smiling keeps us healthy. When we frown, we tighten(繃緊 ) up our faces and our bodies bee tense(繃緊的 ,緊張的 ). A smiling face is a relaxed face. Smiling makes us feel good, and it keeps our bodies functioning(運(yùn)行 ) better. Smiling also makes us look good. No one likes to look at a person who is frowning. Frowns are ugly(丑的 ). Such people make us want to turn and walk away. In addition, smiling is important for success in the business world and the social occasion. A smiling salesman will far outsell(在推銷上勝過 ) a petitor who frowns. A smiling doctor will help his patients relax. A smiling lawyer will win the hearts of the jury(【律】陪審團(tuán) ). In conclusion, smiling is good for our lives in every way. It is something that everyone knows how to do. All it takes is a little effort. However, we do not have to feel happy to start smiling as the song says,”when you’re smiling, the whole world smiles with you.” Being shy Nearly everyone is shy in some ways. Shy people are overconcerned(擔(dān)心的 ) with their own appearance and actions. Worrisome(令人煩惱的 ) thoughts often swirl(打旋 ) in their minds: what kind of impression(印象 ) am I making? Do they like me? Do I sound stupid? If shyness is making you unfortable, it may be time for a few lessons in selfconfidence. Shy ness can be overe with determined(已下決心的 ) and patient efforts in building selfconfidence. You can build your confidence by following some suggestions. First, make decision not to hold back in conversation. What you have to say is just as important as what other people say. And don39。t turn down party invitations(邀請 ) just because of your shyness. Second, prepare yourself for being with others in groups. Make a list of the good qualities you have. Then make a list of ideas, experiences, and skills you would like to share with other people. Think about what you would like to say in advance(先行的 ). Then say it. Third, if you start feeling selfconscious(不自然的 ) in group, take a deep breath and focus your attention on other people. Remember, you are not alone. Other people are concerned(擔(dān)心的 ) about disappointments(失望 ). Profit(有利 ) them as lessons instead of frustration(frustration). As each of us is an individual, we behave in our own personal ways. The better we understand ourselves, the easier it bee to live up to our full potential. No one ever gets over being shy pletely, but most people do learn to live with their shyness. Even entertainers(請客者 ) admit that they often feel shy. They work at fighting their shy feeling so they can face the cameras and the public. Just making the effort to control shyness can have many rewards(報答 ). But perhaps the best reason to fight shyness is to give other people a chance to know more about you. Mood 4 Everyone suffers from an occasional(偶爾的 ) bad mood, but I am in a bad mood more often than other people. As a result, I have developed a list of helpful hints(示意 ,暗示 ) for dealing with depression(意氣消沉 ,沮喪 ). One thing I have learned to do is keep a mood diary. About four times a day, I jot(草草記下 ) down a oneword description of my mood at that moment sad, tired, frustrated, happy, and so on. Then I ask myself questions like “ what event preceded(優(yōu)于 ?) this mood? Have I just eaten a lot of junk(廢棄的舊物 ) food or drunk a lot of coffee? Have I felt this way before?” after keeping this diary for a while, I have begun to see patterns(圖案 ) to my moods. I39。ve found for example that consuming(消費(fèi)的 ) a lot of salty foods like chips makes me feel tense. Another moodcontrolling hint(線索 ) that I39。ve taken is to exercise every day. Exercise seems to prevent depression, and it also helps me sleep better. Any type of exercise works, including jogging,( 慢跑運(yùn)動衣 ), dancing, and even walking around the block. I can also overe depression by giving myself a small treat those times when my spirits are under the weather(under the weather==不舒服 ), for instance, I will go to a movie, listen to a record, or try on a new shirt. If I still feel miserable(痛苦的 ),I try to keep my chin up, for no bad mood lasts forever. Dealing with tension Caught up in the rush of life, we have fotten how to live, how to find simple things charming(迷人的 ). Taking a walk at night under the stars provides something that business deals cannot provides。 enjoying warm sunlight, birds39。 songs and flowers’ fragrance(芬芳 ) is not for poets only, but for everyone. Meditation(沉思 ), too, is a great need. Meditation brings understanding of life39。s relationships, purposes(目標(biāo) ), objectives(目的 ),and rewards, sharp focus. It is an aid for tense nerves. The only way to cope with tension is to learn how to manage one’s body and one’s mind. Resting includes time in bed as well as short periods of relaxation. One may relax when walking on the street, by flexing(收縮 ) his muscles and diverting(快樂的 ) his mind to things around him. Moreover, enough time should be taken for a leisurely(從容不迫地 ) lunch. The most inefficient(無效率的 ) way of handing tirednes
