FOR BUILDING A MCDONALD’S I was exci ted when I heard that our m uni ty was to have its own McDonal d’s restaurant. I thought about al those young peopl e who woul d not have to go to the next town to buy thei r favouri te burgers and chi ps. McDonald’s cares about heal thy eati ng too and works wi th scientists to provide food that i s of hi gh quali ty, safe and heal thy. It i s also cheap .They often provide sal ads as wel as burgers and chi ps. You can al so choose between cola and mil k shakes(奶昔 ). Of course i t also m eans more work for our area that needs jobs badly. McDonal d’s say they are i nterested in doing what is ri ght for the muni ty and being a good neighbour. So I thi nk they wi l be concerned about provi ding parking for the cars i n our m ai nacross the partl yfrozen St Lawrence Ri ver. The river i s ful of bi g pi eces of ice, and i f you were to fal i n, you woul d freeze i n l ess than two mi nutes. On of the favouri te events i s the dogsl ed race, i n whi ch teams of about si x husky dogs pl l ong sl eds at great speeds al ong a snowy track. O ne person runs behi nd the sl ed, shouti ng to the dogs to encoutage them . The sound of the dogs barki ng, the cal s of the dri vers and the shouts of crowd m ake an exci ti ng N othern experi ence. The dogs are beauti ful strong anim al s, wi th l ong, thick fur and m any wi th bl ue eyes. Unit 2 COME AND EAT H ERE (1) Wang Peng sat i n his em pty restaurant feel ing very frustrated. It had been a very strange morni ng. By now his restaurant ought to be ful l of peopl e. But not today! Why was that? What coul d have happened? H e thought of hi s m utton, beef and bacon coked i n the hottest, fi nest oil . Hi s cola was sugary and col d, and hi s ice cream was made of m il k, cream and deli ci ous frui t. “Nothi ng coul d be better, ” he thought. Suddenl y he saw his fri end Li Chang hurryi ng by. “H el l o, Lao Li ,” he cal l ed, “Your usual ?” But Li Chang seem ed not to hear. What was the m ater?
