Karthik Hariharakrishnan was born in TamilNadu, India, in 1979. Dan Schonfeld (SM’05) was born inWestchester, PA, in 1964. He received the . degree in electrical engineering and puter science from the University of California, Berkeley, and the . and . degrees in electrical and puter engineering from the Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD, in 1986,1988, and 1990, respectively. In August 1990, he joined the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of Illinois, Chicago, where he is currently an Associate Professor in the Departments of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, and Bioengineering, and CoDirector of the Multimedia Communications Laboratory (MCL) and member of the Signal and Image Research Laboratory (SIRL). He has authored over 60 technical papers in various journals and conferences. He has served as a Consultant and Technical Standards Committee Member in the areas of multimedia pression, storage, retrieval, munications, and works.
