papers. My Opinion of Today’s Education I think one of the main problems with today’s education is that too much emphasis is placed on test scores. It has bee the most important criterion for college enrollment. A student, however creative and intelligent, will not be admitted into a college if his total scores are just one point less than required. It is also one of the crucial factors either in job assignment or in employment petitions. The petition for high scores among students bees intense. Students find themselves concentrating more on strategies to achieve high scores than on acquiring knowledge. They will play truant of some subsidiary course, skip over the substance which will not be tested on, even pump teachers for hints on uping exams. Teachers are apt to give their students high scores. As their job is judged mainly by the students’ performance in terms of scores, some teachers tend to set easy papers to test their students on or narrow down the scope of the exam. Some teachers even leak “accidentally” the exam questions or lower their criterion of scoring. As a result, the petition for high scores bees so intense that it actually defeats academic goals of education. 3教育市場(chǎng) Education and the Market As the socialist market economy in China is expanding, education is being more closely related to the market. In a broad sense, all the modern society is based on the market economy. As part of the society, education cannot be separated from the market. On the contrary, the former has much to do with the latter. Therefore, it is general believed that educaiton serves the market and the latter, in turn, supports the former. The reason for education to enter the market is obvious. As a developing country, China is not likely to invest a huge amount of money in education in the near future. Education has to turn to the market to find its own way. It is important to note that teacher’s way of production is to teach and train students. The students’ knowledge is an invisible product. In addition, their services to students and society are valuable. So education has to be run in accordance with the law value to realize the aim that students pay for their education and find jobs for themselves rather than being assigned jobs by the states. Personally, I think education is an independent industry between students and the talent market. It is the indispensable link between the two. So I can conclude that since science and technology and talented people can enter the market, it is a matter of course for education to enter the market.3道歉信(接機(jī)) Dear Martin, I am looking forward to your visit. In the past seven years I spent at least an hour on English each day. I believe this is an important reason why I am able to make progress in learning English.28. 假定你是李明,你收到了下面這封美國(guó)的筆有寫來(lái)的信。 Grammar and idioms may be another difficulty. But I have also got over it. I have not read lots of grammar books. But I spent much time reading the articles written by native speakers or specialists in English. By doing so, I came to gain “a sense of English language”. I began to gain a feel for which sentences are “good English” and which are not. The spelling and meaning of words can be said to be the first difficulty I met as a beginner. But I found our my own way to deal with them. As to spelling, I never copied a new work again and again to remember it, but tried to find its relevance to the sound. In fact, as long as I can read the word out, I can write it out. As to the meaning, I rarely recite its Chinese translation but often put the word into the sentence to learn its meaning. Moreover, if you use a word quite often, its spelling and meaning will be no problem. After all, we are learning English in order to use it. To a Chinese, the task of learning English well is not easy. So I, like many other English learners, have met with difficulties in learning English during the past seven years. But I managed to overe them and made much progress. Since we can get so much from making our cities greener, we should spare no effort to do that. We should plant more trees and take better care of them. We also should not cut down the trees. In a word, we should do everything to add to the greening of our cities.2你在英語(yǔ)學(xué)習(xí)中有哪些困難?你是如何克服這些困難的? We can benefit much from making our cities greener by planting trees. First, trees absorb carbon dioxide to produce oxygen which is essential to the health of human beings. Second, trees and other greenery make our cities more beautiful. Third, trees can also improve the climate of the cities. Recent efforts toward the greening of our cities have achieved much, although the results are still far from satisfactory. In recent years many tr
