In ancient times, it generally referred to long gowns worn by the people of Manchuria, Mongolia and the EightBanner. ?The gown had four slits, with one on the left, right, front and back, which reached the knees. It was fitted to the body and rather warm. Fastened with a waistband, the long gown could hold solid food and utensils when people went out hunting. The Development of Cheongsam ? The cheongsam came from the Manchus of Nuzhen tribes(女真部落 ). In the early 17th century, Nurhachi(努爾哈赤) unified the various Nuzhen tribes and set up the Eight Banners Systerm. Over the years ,a collarless, tube shaped gown was developed, which was worn by both men and women. That is the embryo of the Qipao. The cheongsam goes Mainstream ? It can be wore in many situations ,such as social gatherings、 weddings, and so on,suggesting that it has became the national dress. ? It is something of a vogue at home and abroad.
