Qu Yuan, a Chinese poet who loved his country deeply, drowned himself in the Miluo River after his country’s being defeated. To honor him, people in China hold various activities every year, including eating zongzi and dragon boat racing.

Qu Yuan , an honest minister who is said to have mitted suicide by drowning himself in a river. Qu was a minister of the State of Chu situated in presentday Hunan and Hubei provinces, during theWarring States Period(475221BC)(戰(zhàn)國時期).
