【正文】 xpectations was ic. Estella was the daughter of Magwitch, the coarse convict, and thus sprung from the very lowest level of society. Ironically, life among the upper classes did not represent salvation for Estella. Instead, she was victimized twice by her adopter. Rather than being raised by Magwitch, her real father,a man of great inner nobility, she was raised by Miss Havisham, who destroyed her ability to express emotion and interact normally in her social life. And rather than marrying the kindhearted moner Pip, Estella married the cruel nobleman Drummle, who treated her harshly and made her life miserable for many years. In this way, Dickens used Estella39。s life to reinforce the idea that one39。s happiness and wellbeing were not deeply connected to one’s social position: had Estella been poor, she might have been 14 substantially better off. When Pip got his fortune to be a gentleman in London, he showed haughtiness, he began to feel shamed about the people in the smell village, he began to look down up on them even the dearest person Joe. Because Joe had some things to tell Pip so he went to London to see him, but Pip was unhappy he didn’t like his visit。 he was afraid of been laughed at by his friends, thus, they would look down up on him. He was so cruel that he even thought of avoiding Joe’s visiting by money. “If I could have kept him away by paying money, I certainly would have paid money”. I think he was heartless, fet all Joe’s kind to him, if let other people they would think Pip was an ungrateful person they would leave Pip。 but Joe didn’t do like that. He still was very patient to Pip, never blame for his bad manner, still very kind to Pip。 he only suffered all Pip’s coldly treats in silence. Finally, Pip lost all his fortune. In that society when you are in good people would all play up to you, but if you got bad on one would sympathize with you. Therefore, creditors came to ask for their money. None of his “gentleman friends” came to help him. Though Pip treated Joe very bad, heartless to him, he didn’t mind。 he came to help him when Pip was in bad trouble. Joe paid all Pip’s debt back and took care of him very carefully, when Pip recovered he came back silently. He always loved them no matter what happened. These all showed that Joe was a good nature man. He had all of the good characters.
