Our perfect world lies beyond this tower. Marry me and leave this place.Rapunzel: Leave here? But my mother… She would be all alone.Prince: If you mother truly loves you she will understand…Rapunzel: Huh… you don’t know my mother… Prince: Then run away with me…Rapunzel: (Being excited) Do you mean it? The Witch Grabs RAPUNZEL39。s hair, and tugs it gently)Rapunzel: My love, you must go…(Rapunzel sees that it is the witch and not the Prince)Witch: Ah! You wicked child, what did I hear you say? I thought I had saved you from deception, and yet you have deceived me. I wish to see the world.Witch: (Tender, but intense) Don’t you know what’s out there in the world? Someone has to shield you from that world!Princes wait there in the world, It’s true, but danger death and sadness too.Who out there could love you more than I?What is out there that I cannot supply? The world is dark and wild… stay a child when you can be a child.WITH ME.Rapunzel: I love him!Witch: Stay a child with me…(RAPUNZEL just whimpers。 music continues under) I gave you protection and yet you disobeyed me. She cuts RAPUNZEL39。S hair)Witch: I will not share you, but I WILL show you a world you39。ve never seen.Deep into the desert… where you shall live alone for all of your days…ALONE!Rapunzel: No! No!Witch: And when I find your prince… I39。m going to gauge is eyes out. So much for true love. (Chorus snickers)(WITCH and Chorus drag RAPUNZEL off laughing)Did you really you believe that you would be able to charm the prince into taking you away from me?Scene 10Narrator: After having cast out Rapunzel to a remote desert, the witch returned to take the Prince by surprise. The enchantress fastened the braids of hair, which she had cut off, to the window, and when the king39。s son came and cried, (The Prince Enters) Rapunzel, Rapunzel,Let down your hair! Prince: (Overlapping) Rapunzel, Rapunzel Let down your hair!Witch: (The Prince mistakenly climbs up to the Witch) You have e to see your dearest, but the bird no longer sits in her cage. Rapunzel is lost to you. You will never see her again.Your eyes are dimmed, your limbs are bound.Thus I lay you down to rest.Still and silent in the ground.(The Witch casts a spell on the Prince and he falls from the tower. She laughs with delight as RAPUNZEL39。S PRINCE stumbles helplessly offstage)Prince: Ahhhhh… I will find my love! Even the blindness brought on by an old evil witch will not stop me.SCENE 11Narrator: The young prince was beside himself with pain. He ate nothing but roots and berries, and did naught but lament and weep over the loss of his dearest love. Thus he roamed about in misery for some years, blindly searching for his love… and at length came to the desert where Rapunzel had been banished. (We here Rapunzel singing. The Prince enters…) Prince: Agony… (He hears her voice)Rapunzel: Ah…Ah… Ah… Ah…Prince: My darling Rapunzel… it cannot be. I have been wandering for years looking for you.Rapunzel: (She rushes to him) My darling… you were right she was just an evil witch who loved none but herself. Oh what has she done to you…? Your eyes! Prince: Shhhh…. Rapunzel, close your eyes and listen to my voice. I have no need for sight。 my heart sees the soul that matches mine. I love you, Rapunzel, from now until the end of eternity.Rapunzel: (She takes him into her arms crying) I love you!Narrator: As they held each other and wept two of her tears wetted his eyes and their touch restored his vision. He led her to his kingdom where he was joyfully received, and they lived for a long time afterwards, happy and contented.
