ounding imperious which beckons him to follow. Though he is wildly glad with the wild brother, he still remembers Thornton, the only man who ties him to civilization. “ Thornton alone held him, the rest of mankind was nothing.”⑧ Buck’s passionate love demonstrated the last time when he confronts Thornton’s death. He bursts into fury. “For the last time in his life he allowed passion to usurp cunning and reason, and it was because of his great love for John Thornton that he lost his head.”⑨ Thornton’s body is deep in the waters, all day long Buck is brooding by the pool or roaming restlessly above the camp. Thornton’s death has left a great void in him. “Which is somewhat akin to hunger, but which aches and aches, and which food cannot fill.”⑨ Thornton is dead, so there is nothing held Buck now. Mankind and civilization has been far away from him, but the vast wilderness is full of vitality, he turns to wild.Love is the most valuable things of the world. When we talk about love, something tender and warm fills in the mind. The love keeps Buck from the wild is just as love has held London. John Thornton is the ideal human in London’s mind. He “l(fā)ives close to earth, thinking simply and seeing clearly”. ⑩ He determines to reach his goal but heavily roots in civilized humanity no matter dealing with people or animals affairs. He is not only the ideal master, but also the ideal friend, spouse and sibling. But for London, this is a kind of idealism. In a life, however, love eventually dies or is killed, as John Thornton is killed by the Yeehats and then Buck reverts to the savagery of wolf pack. Buck’s revert to wild implying the motif of man’s escaping from the harshness of human affairs. Buck’s trail journey all the way through the white and frozen Northland is just life experiences of working people, who struggles for life, endures toils and sufferings of hard work, but eventually they get nothing good. In the wild, Buck leads the wolf pack, sings a song of the younger world, a world of freedom, where excludes all harshness of civilization.London’s time has passed, the startling character of Buck still preserving its charm. As the fittest, Buck survives in the harsh environment. With dignity, he embodies his loyal emotions. His powers of perception are paramount. Being placed into a strange perilous world, Buck adjusts himself quickly and proceeds with great circumspection. From the man with a club, Curly’s death to the great fight with Spitz, Buck follows new rules of his world and grows to be a superior. During this progress he displays his most fascinating trait: the ability to learn from absolutely everything around him.Buck has transformed from a domesticated dog to a wild animal. Though wild, he keeps a pure emotion that fills us with awe. His love for John Thornton is mixed with adoration and selfless devotion. He is an unprecedented beast who annotates love more thoroughly. The escape motif in the call of the wild is vague in modern times。 Buck’s story is remaining striking and exhilarating. His strength, intelligence and strong will of success are revelations to our human: Though life is filled with hardships, never give up. Fight against the harshness and learn in the way。 work with perseverance, diligence and deep meditation, though temporary failure may acpanied, an achievement will be enrolled eventually.Notes:①―⑤ The call of the wild White Fang and other stories。 Jack London。 Foreign Language Teaching amp。 Research Press, 1944。 p11, p12, p16, p24, p35⑥ The call of the wild and White Fang。 Jack London。 Bantam publication 1963。 page 6⑦―⑩ The call of the wild White Fang and other stories。 Jack London。 Foreign Language Teaching amp。 Research Press, 1944。 p6162, p63, p84, p85, p64References:1.
