The pituitary gonadotropins FSH and LH are protein hormones secreted by the anterior pituitary gland. FSH and LH are also secreted in pulsatile fashion in concert with the pulsatile release of GnRH, the quantity of secretion and the rates of FSH/LH are determined largely by the levels of ovarian steroid hormones and other ovarian factors . ? When a woman is in a state of relative estrogen deficiency, the principal gonadotropin secreted is FSH. ? FSH stimulates the follicular development, maturation and the production of estrogen. ? LH induces ovulation of mature follicle, corpus lutein formation and the production of progesterone and estrogen.
