(Laughter.) Wele. What a great day for the White House. I am pleased to wele volunteers from around the United States who have given of their time to help those who need help, and were sure glad youre here. Those of you today who perform acts ofkindness do so out of love, and you do so out of a desire not to be recognized but anyway, youre going to be recognized. We have the opportunity today to thank you, and the opportunity today to celebrate the difference that volunteers have made all across America.I want to thank Jean Case, whos the Chairman of thePresidents Council on Service and Civic Participation.And I want to thank the members of the Council whoare here. (Applause.)And I thank David Eisner, the CEO of the Corporationfor National and Community Service。 Jack Hawkins,the Director of Volunteers for Prosperity, USAID。 RonTschetter, Director of the Peace Corps。 and other PeaceCorps volunteers who are here about which Im going to say something a little later. (Laughter.) This tends to be an enthusiastic bunch, and so I would ask you to (laughter) keep yourenthusiasm in check for just a minute. (Laughter.)The spirit of charity that is celebrated here has been a part of our character, our nationscharacter, ever since before we were an independent nation. In 1736, for example, BenjaminFranklin organized the citizens of Philadelphia to form a volunteer fire pany. Isnt thatinteresting? A lot of our a lot has changed since then, but the principle that inspired Benjamin Franklin is still true today, all throughout the munities in America.Those of you who are here today understand the lesson, how you can gain by giving. You canunderstand how volunteering can transform the souls, both who give and those they help. When you teach a child to read, for example, you not only improve their chances for success in the world, but you bee invested in the progress of a young life. When you visit the elderly, you remind them that they are loved, and you remind yourself of how deeply we all feel the need forpassion. When you help the homeless find shelter, you remove the pain of need, and rediscover the resiliency of the human spirit.While there are many ways that government can help societys least advantaged and we try to do our best here in Washington it can never replicate the private acts of goodness and the ties of affection they create between Americans. And that is why our administration has focused on篇三：志愿者小記志愿者小記作文 文／鐘 熒[天津市英華國際學校] 不管別人如何看，我不斷覺得志愿者是一個特別榮耀的身份。上了高中后，我終于有時機親身體驗了一次當志愿者的感受。那是一次大規(guī)模的馬拉松競賽，作為一名一般志愿者，我被安排到了間隔起點三十公里的位置。這里已是賽程的中后部分，卻又遠離終點，因此熱情的媒體不會守候在此，陪跑五公里的當?shù)厝嗽缇筒灰娏僳櫽?，甚至連觀眾也沒多少。能夠說，對這場轟轟烈烈、熱喧嘩鬧的競賽來說，這里是，一個冷清的角落。 盡管我們這些綠衣志愿者早在五點鐘便到了崗，可除了少數(shù)環(huán)衛(wèi)大叔與民警外，最多的仍然一排排的樹與淺碧色帶著水珠的草地。這里是城郊相接的地點，不遠處便是大片新墾的農(nóng)田。一彎小河不知從哪里發(fā)源，輕巧地流淌過去。這里沒有玻璃筑的高樓，也沒有紅磚筑的平房，什么都沒有，卻又大概什么都有。這個地點的嫵媚，在這個城市不為人知。 坐在搭有一個宏大喜鵲巢的樹下，看完了一整本小說，又陸續(xù)捉了藍藍綠綠的幾只纖細輕盤的豆娘，一百米外的志愿者像喊山歌接力般地告訴我，競賽開場了。 在青青的草坪上打了個滾，起身整理好胸牌，再扶正帽子，我們這些樹底下東倒西歪的“翠色護欄”迅速修復復原。 這一等確實是兩個小時，當?shù)却炎屓诵慕沟臅r候，一馬領(lǐng)先的選手們終于到了。幾輛警車與搶救車駛過，隨后是媒體全程錄像的工作車輛。車隊中間是十幾個正在全速奔跑的非洲選手。他們啪嗒啪嗒地跑過去，汗水在身后灑了一地，義：被逐步升高的日頭一下子蒸干。 這些第一集團選手的速度太快了，他們匆匆地一掠而過，仿佛風的剪影，又好像黑色的閃電。幾名中國選手稍稍落后，但也盡可能地咬住前面的選手。隨著時間的推移，所有參賽的職業(yè)選手都陸陸續(xù)續(xù)地通過了我們四周。而這時，讓我震撼的場面才剛剛開場。 當那些矯健的職業(yè)選手通過特別久之后，遠處跑來的是那些非職業(yè)但仍然堅持跑下來的人們。 這隊伍里有大爺大媽，已是滿頭銀發(fā)；也有大學生舉著校旗，更多的是一般的職員。我不明晰他們每個人是做什么的，而這大概也無關(guān)緊要。三十公里的長路，慢慢融化了他們的職業(yè)與身份，人性如剝了殼的蝦子，顯出里面粉嫩綿軟的好心。 我忍不住為他們——這些無名的非職業(yè)選手加油。我決心為每個堅持到這里的一般市民加油，從第一個到最后一個，每人獻上一句。不管名次如何，他們都在這漫長的征途中超越了本人，同樣值得我仰慕。 原以為他們已疲乏不堪，沒想到他們的回應(yīng)竟是那樣熱情。 當我向那彪形大漢擺出可愛的小兔子的外型時，那大漢也依樣畫葫蘆，笨拙地朝我裝可愛；那滿頭大汗的年輕選手脫掉了上衣，將整瓶水倒在頭上、背上，卻照舊不愿亂扔雜物，而是邊跑邊找垃圾箱；我喊“堅持——”，他們會心腸接上“確實是成功”，我喊“加油——”，他們詼諧地接上“為美女加油”；我向他們微笑，他們微笑著調(diào)侃說這是“天津新形象”。有些政治書一般的話，此刻說出口來卻樸實自然、親切可愛?? 和每一個跑過四周的一般市民擊掌相慶，有一種特別美妙的感情在心中慢慢涌動，就好像這青綠色的郊外，帶些酸甜的橘子味，但彌散出的鵝黃邊緣，卻都顯出暖意。 人在專注于一件事到極致時，會特別容易不記得那個在社會上、在眾人面前的本人。這時的人特別脆弱，他完全不記得了什么社交，什么人際關(guān)系；但這時的交往也特別真誠，彼此的投人、心血、眼淚都是那樣樸實而平和。如此的事情不止發(fā)生在那些成就斐然的科學家們身上，同樣也正發(fā)生在我眼前這些跑在馬拉松賽道上的一般市民身上。汗水的流淌讓人性蒸騰盡了水分，讓他們性格中的珍貴升華成偉大。這讓我肅然起敬， 當最后一個選手跑過后，正午的陽光正肆意地傾瀉下來。我站在路邊望著他們，慢慢摘下帽子，對著他們的背影，鞠了一躬。
