【正文】 the central task of teaching and learning, following changes on course arrangement should be made. In the first and second years, which in all include four terms, elementary school should arrange two kinds of courses. One class is about the basic knowledge of English。 1 Ⅰ Introduction The position of English in teaching and learning in current China. English is being more and more popular to Chinese people and has bee an indispensable part of Chinese teaching in schools. Nowadays since in elementary schools, systematic English teaching has began. In middle and high schools, English has also bee a main course in students’ study. And when in the university, English is also taught and will bee much more special. At the same time, English will be divided into various orientations as a major. Therefore, in nowadays, English learning has bee an important part in students’ study life. And what’s more, with the world being smaller and smaller, English shows its great importance on municating with people of different countries. Especially when our country has entered into WTO, English has bee much more popular, practical and useful. Many fields need English speaking people. Step by step, people pay much more attention to English learning. And then English teaching has taken up a very important position in China naturally. Situations in English teaching and learning in Chinese schools English teaching is developing so fast. The unceasing reforms have made the situation of Chinese English teaching better and better. With the development of English teaching, students’ English learning also makes great progress. Different periods (. Elementary schools, high schools, and universities) have different ways in teaching, which make students familiar with English and have a good mastery of the subject. In the present situation of English teaching and learning in Chinese schools, virtues exist, but from a very objective stand, there are still many questions. Better solutions to these problems need to be found. Reasons and the aim of writing the thesis I am an English major student and very familiar with the system of English teaching and learning in China. And what I have learnt es from this process and I am deeply influenced by this. I can have a general knowledge of which sides are fabulous and which ones are not. Viewed from my own stand, English teaching can see some virtues and shortages. So when thinking about writing a thesis, I want to write something about this, which is familiar to me, and is also very worthy to explore into it. The aim of writing the thesis is to discuss and analyze the questions appeared in the present English teaching and learning in Chinese schools. And then I will propose a solution of my own points of views. II Current English teaching and learning situation in Chinese schools With the arrival of information age, international munication bees more 2 and more frequent day by day, which has caused English to obtain the most important international language position. As a result of the historical reason and inter’s widespread use, English has already bee the prime task language that each kind of international situation uses。 simple education and examinationoriented education in the past are gradually transformed to the prehensive education and lifelong education. The advanced teaching ideas are being formed, from the language knowledge’s instruction to the transformation of the language knowledge and the language skills, the human’s language concepts of munication have already been approved severely (Xiao Hao, 2020).The English language qualities have been enhanced greatly as a whole, the educational models and the methods also have the innovational improvement in some sense, the teachercentered teaching approach is being transformed to the studentcentered learning approach. The educational techniques and methods diversify day by day。 instead it should be taught and learnt as a language. In other words, the key point of teaching is to develop the ability of mastering the language of English. Second, as concerning the course arrangement, there should be three kinds of classes. They are oral English, English listening, and prehensive English. Class of oral English and English listening will be had in the second and third year of middle school. Their grades are not determined by one final examination but the overall performance in the two years. In the two years’ study, there will be standard grades requested by school that students should get. Those whose grades are below the standard grades will not be allowed to attend the examination to high school. By this way, students will have some basis of English listening and oral English. And the really useful skill in English will be not ignored and got by students. However the prehensive English will be studied throughout the study of middle school. In this subject, it will include all kinds of knowledge about English, such as words accumulation, grammar knowledge, passage analysis, cultural knowledge, English literature, linguistics and so on. In the final examination to high school, an exam of prehensive English will be included examine the level of students’ English. Third, the teaching methods should be proper to the course arrangements. In different courses, different methods ought to be taken. In oral English class, teachers should try their best to model western teaching ways to teach students. And then help them to develop a thinking pattern of English. At the same time, in class teachers together with students practice oral English to develop munication ability. This class can take the way of group to practice.
