For instance, if a Chinese student learns Swahili(斯瓦希里語 ), an African language, by means of English, then English is his medium language while Swahili is his target language. Some language students major or specialize in English. So English is their major or specialty. People learn English for Special Purposes (ESP, for short) (專門用途英語 ), for instance, some students learn business English. It is the English language used in business. Those nonEnglish majors like science students learn English as service English (公共英語 ). In China, the service English taught at universities and colleges is called College English. Language is an instrument for munication. There are two ways of munication, that is, verbal means and nonverbal means. The verbal means of munication includes oral or spoken form and written form. So the students of English learn oral English or spoken English, and also learn written English. The nonverbal means of munication includes body language, signs and diagrams. Body language, including facial expressions and gestures, is the way in which people show their feelings or thoughts to other people by means of the position or movements of their bodies rather than with words. A sign is a mark or shape, which always has a generally known meaning. A diagram is a simple drawing consisting mainly of lines. It often serves to explain how something works.
