The problem is the lack of confidence in others and the fear that they don39。 and suppliers。 PERSONAL MANAGEMENT SKILLS Abstract:With the rapid development of construction industry,management skills of project manager has an important effect on project cost, quality, schedule. This paper from the project manager of the challenges and opportunities,using new innovations ,human aspects,assignment of work, motivation, decision making and time management introduces the personal management skill of project managers. Key words: project manager personal management skill Using new innovations motivation time management Challenges and Opportunities There is a great amount of pride and satisfaction in seeing a project pleted and in operation. There are many challenges in managing engineering and construction due to the dynamic nature of projects. Solving problems as they arise instills a sense of satisfaction in the project manager and members of the project team. Most project managers agree that lifelong friends are created by working with people on projects. Years after a project is pleted, conversations between people who have worked together on past projects often turn to amusing memories of the problems that occurred and the methods used to resolve the problems. Generally, the problems seem much less serious after the project is pleted than they were during execution of the project. Successful people convert challenges to opportunities. Regardless of how difficult a problem may appear, there is always a way to resolve it. After pleting a project, most project managers are enthusiastically ready to start a new project. They look forward to the next project and the opportunity to apply the lessons learned from previous projects. Most project managers agree that they have fun doing their work. USING NEW INNOVATIONS New technologies sometimes are resisted by people until they are proven. Too often the technology is available, but it is not used because people sometimes resist change. The successful project manager should assess new technology and devise innovative methods to incorporate the technology to enhance the project management process. The Inter is a technology that is currently available and has the potential to impact the way project managers do their work, similar to the impact of puters. The advantages of managing projects via the Inter are numerous, primarily in saving time and increasing efficiency. Information can be distributed more rapidly to geographically dispersed owners, designers, contractors, and suppliers. Correspondence,drawings, and photographs can be posted on projectspecific Inter sites and cataloged for easy access. Key team members can monitor data exchange, which greatly reduces turnaround time for decision making. For example, using traditional methods it may take an hour just to process a request for information (RF39。 trading partners, such as subcontractors。t have time for additional assignments or that others avoid accepting responsibility. Although these factors are of concern, they and similar factors are a routine part of working with people and can be overe with good management project managers have many years of experience of doing the work before their assignment of managing the work. Because they are familiar with what is required, they may prefer doing the work themselves rather than delegating it to others. The result is they bee overworked from attempting to both do and manage the work, spend nights and weekends devoted to their job, and then plain that the work is not acplished because others are too inexperienced. A project manager must realize that others can only gain experience by doing the work。 therefore the project manager delegates the work to members of the project team. Assigning work to another person delegates authority and responsibility to that person to acplish the work and to make decisions that may be necessary. However, delegating authority, responsibility, and decision making does not necessarily cause the project manager to relinquish control. A project manager may define different levels of delegation, such as plete the work and provide the results, propose the work to be performed and inform before proceeding, or perform part of the work and submit for review and involves assignment of work to the right person with a clear explanation of what is expected and when it must be pleted. Because misrnunication is a mon problem in project management, one must be certain that the other person understands what has been assigned. A project manager must give each person on the team an opportunity to do the job the way he or she wants to do it. A project manager should be reasonable in his or her expectations. If an assignment is not reasonably achievable, the person who is assigned to do the task usually will recognize this fact and resist pressure and responsibility. The best way to evaluate the reality of achieving an assigned task is to work with the person to obtain his or her assistance in defining the work that is required to achieve the final end result. During the course of acplishing work, many obstacles arise. A project manager must be accessible to explain things that may not be clearly understood and to make any adjustments that may be necessary. In short, the project manager must also be available when he or she is needed.
