The stubborn Afri can In 1968 a Kenyan athl ete Ki p Kei no peted i n the 1500 m etres runni ng race. At that tim e he was very i l and i n great pai n. Al though he had reached the standard for the fi nal of the race he deci ded at fi rst not to take part. H owever, just before the race was goi ng to start he changed hi s mi nd. H e ran from hi s room and arri ved at the race track a few m inutes before the race was about to begin. Surpri singl y, he won the race, fi ni shi ng wel l ahead of everyone el se and showi ng what true courage and perseverance can achi eve. The Wi nter Ol ym pi cs are usual ly hel d two years before the Summ er Gam es. O nl y athl etes who have reached the agreed standard for thei r event wil l be admi tted as petitors. They m ay e from anywhere in the worl d. P: Wi nter Gam es? H ow can the runners enjoy peti ng i n wi nter? And what about the horses? L: O h no! There are no runni ng races or horse ri di ng events.
