Although there are many articles about humor, the study in this field is still not enough. This thesis intends to explicate the nature of humor by analyzing some humorous stories and the differences between linguistic and cultural. According to the differences between Chinese and Western cultures, This thesis goes further to make a exploration on the linguistic and cultural reasons that lead to barriers in the understanding of humor in English and Chinese, Western culture and Chinese culture. And the significance of this passage is not only to highlight the importance of different culture learning, but also has a great help for us who read and understand the Chinese and English books.
