As is wellknown, Edward Hall in his Silent Language (1959) first mentions On the Effectiveness of American Situation Comedy in Cultivating Crosscultural Communicative Competence 4 crosscultural munication. In the 1960s, the intellectuals in munication conceptualized crosscultural munication. A great deal of published works reflects a quick progress in the field during the 1970s. Being integrated was the right direction of its development during the 1980s. The niies witnessed great importance to variation of ways. So what and when can be defined as crosscultural munication after all? Generally speaking, it is intercultural munication that is such munication among different persons ing from various nations as well as having diverse cultural backgrounds (Kim, 2020). What’s more, a lot of professors confine it to face to face interaction and munication. There is another definition of crosscultural munication that the munication between human beings with distinct cultural conceptions and different cultural symbols is crosscultural munication (Samovar et al, 2020). And crossracial munication, crosscultural munication and crossethnic munication are 3 various modes of crosscultural munication. Crosscultural munication involves extensive fields such as munication, culture and humanities, in addition to linguisticss and semilogy and many others, which is based on many related subjects’ results. There are mutual effects and promotion between culture learning and language learning. Culture learning is the foundation of cultivating crosscultural municative petence, so we should bine culture learning with developing language petence and crosscultural language petence. Literature summarization and theoretical analysis are primarily adopted in the thesis on the effectiveness of situation edy in cultivating crosscultural municative petence. The author discusses how to bond culture teaching and language teaching by appreciating the films and TV plays in class to improve learners’ crosscultural municative petence, and the author analyzes mon problems of English learners and crosscultural municative barriers and how to avoid or even settle these problems. Situation edies are popular with a great deal of English lovers because of humorous dialogues and pure English.
