The husband fails to fulfill his responsibilities, and can not afford to let Hester live the life she wants. Therefore, the husband does not have the ability to love her wife and fails to take the responsibility to take care of her. Conclusion In the background of modern industrial civilization, the loss of humanity and the indifference between people are revealed in The RockingHorse Winner. The love between mother and son, father and son, husband and wife are all abnormal under that circumstance. In The RockingHorse Winner, every person?s attitude and action is driven by money, and all of them bee a clown and makes themselves a tool of making money, and a slave of money. The relationship between family members is indifferent, which is not to exchange love and trust, but money. The husband is disabled, weak and hardhearted, and the wife is so disappointed that she lost her ability of love and only pursues the enjoyment of money all day. The woman cannot love her children and husband, and the man is disappearing all the time and never takes his responsibility as a father and a husband. While their son, Paul sacrifice his life in order to gain his mother?s love and satisfy her greedy need of money. All in all, it is actually Hester?s greedy which leads to the death of Paul. As Hester?s brother says, Hester gains eightyodd thousand, but kills her own son. She is the person who makes Paul die. Therefore, the RockingHorse Winner is a tragedy that a son?s death is because of his mother?s greedy and the sacrifice of capitalist society.
