【正文】 ven though I give credit to movies education value, and I assume that movies have many other uses as well. I turn to my first contention with the statement that we do learn a lot from movies who promote good virtues and precious qualities necessary for living a good life. For example, in ‘the pursuit of happiness’, the father who was abandoned by his wife as a result of business failure has taught us much about the real life. The father lost his job, and with no ine, he was soon driven out of the apartment in which he lived with his son. He struggled to make the ends meet but had to stay in station bathroom overnight with his son. However, he has never given up but fought to pursue his dream and happiness. With his optimism and nevergivingup spirit, he finally got a position in distinguished institution on Wall Street. In this sense, movies promoting good virtues work for a better society. Yet I don’t agree that it’s meaningless to watch movies that don’t mean to teach something about the real life. The chief reason is that we watch movies more often for the sake of its entertainment value. That doesn’t necessarily imply that we won’t learn anything from the movies. First, as a form of art and conveyor of people’s emotion or ideas, every film has its educational value. Moreover, the way we learn from the movies is unconscious and unintended since we watch movies primarily to relax ourselves and relieve the burden of the reallife difficulties. All said, if the educational elements are underlying, people would still learn nothing without thinking twice. In a word, it’s incontrovertible that movie is responsible for education. On the other hand, we should be aware that we shouldn’t put overemphasis on its education value. Some people argue that government should pay more attention on those useful researches to deal with real problems. Most of practical science is based on theories. If scientists study nothing about theories, no inventions will be made. Although basic researches are mostly useless for practice, they are the foundation of science.In addition, some scientific researches seem to be useless at the beginning while they turn out to be useful in the end. Even scientists couldn’t tell if some researches have practical use. For instance, gunpowder was invented for fireworks and crackers. Nobody knew that it was used in wars later on and killed numerous human beings’ lives. We don’t know neither that space station can breed some transgenic vegetables which may cure some diseases when we began to send rockets to the space. To the contrary, some kinds of researches that are claimed to be useful turn out to be useless. We couldn’t determine which one has practical use and which one doesn’t before we do research.Last but not least, governments should balance the money they have. That the government should support useless scientific research doesn’t mean that the government should pay endless money on it. After all, those researches which can solve real problems are more emergency and crucial to many people. We can see the yield in the close future. Basic research, on the other hand, needs longer time and more energy to show the value.To sum up, useless scientific research should be support by government in the long term. At the same time, government should balance the budget depending on the practical situation.
