The weakness,advantage and possible improvement of each control methods were analysed. The principle of adaptive control and distributed control system applied for aluminum electrolysis were introduced elaborately. Computer control technology for aluminum smelters in China is developing in intelligent fuzzy control system based on the adaptive control of alumina concentration. The quality of alumina and prebaked anode,functions and stability of controller,and stability of cell current are very important for the control effectiveness. More studies on alumina dissolution in molten electrolyte and on conductance of molten electrolyte are needed to develop the control technology for alumi
