【正文】 home pla. JOSH One earth day might be like an hour for him, so ten days NICOLE is like ten hours, yeah I get it. You?re being ridiculous. JOSH Think about it. He?s this super brain, with amnesia. He can?t understand the simplest things, but does calculus like two plus two. He barely knows what you?re saying sometimes, but somehow speaks Chinese? He never sleeps and I haven?t even got to the whole belly button thing yet. Mom, I?m tellin? ya – Kyle is not human! [Kyle walks in just when Josh says this and he looks worried] NICOLE [puts a hand on his shoulder to reassure him] Oh, Kyle, of course you?re human. JOSH See – even he?s not sure. NICOLE Stop wasting time. Go do your homework. 9 JOSH That?s a waste of time. VOICEOVER I didn?t know time could be wasted. NICOLE [sits Kyle down at the desk with paper and crayons] Kyle, I want you to try something. Sometimes people have trouble sleeping because they?re concerned about something that?s happened to them. KYLE Am I? NICOLE I?m not sure. But this might help you recall some experiences. I want you to draw, anything. Anything at all. Anything you can remember about where you came from. About your home. [Kyle considers for a moment, then picks up a crayon and starts creating a picture. After a few moments, he looks up at Nicole] NICOLE Great. Don?t worry if it doesn?t make any sense to you now. Kitchen early evening NICOLE [bringing glasses of wine for her and Stephen] Kyle?s still at it. He?s been drawing for hours. STEPHEN [looking at the pictures that Kyle has drawn] Good, wear him out. NICOLE The way he draws…it?s almost like he snaps a picture in his head and then reproduces it. STEPHEN It?s the same sort of thing over and over. 10 NICOLE [pointing out one picture in particular] This must be the place near Victor Falls where he was first seen. His earliest memory. STEPHEN What do you think it means? NICOLE Well, I think something significant may have happened there but…h(huán)e can?t explain it yet. [They are looking at a picture Kyle created of a scene in the woods. It looks like a very large tree stump.] Kitchen after dinner [Kyle is sitting at the kitchen counter watching the teapot whistle] NICOLE [to Kyle] Chamomile always does the trick for me. It?s very soothing. It?s gonna help you sleep. JOSH [entering kitchen] Tastes like horse pee. NICOLE Josh… JOSH It does. KYLE What does horse pee taste like? JOSH How would I know? KYLE You just said that 11 NICOLE It?s an expression. A rude one. Here…Kyle, try the tea. It?s hot though。 somewhere a dog is barking. Finally he gets up and sits on the edge of the bed and watches Josh sleeping.] Voiceover: They called it sleep. A strange state after dark during which they did nothing… [Kyle gets out of bed. He opens the door to Lori?s bedroom and watches her sleeping.] …thought nothing… [Kyle is sitting in a chair next to Stephen and Nicole?s bed listening to Stephen snoring and Nicole calling out in her sleep.] …but made odd noises and sometimes spoke. How could they just lie there all night? There was so much to learn and explore. [Kyle is downstairs in the kitchen exploring the contents of the refrigerator. Kyle likes playing in the refrigerator.] Voiceover: I didn?t know where to begin. [Kyle decides to begin by grabbing the strawberry jam and digging into it with his fingers. Everything he grabs out of the refrigerator goes into his mouth – jam, chocolate syrup, cold spaghetti – and all over his face and pajama top. He almost chokes himself sucking whipped cream out of the can.] Voiceover: Every taste and texture made my senses explode. [He pulls a dill pickle out of the jar and chomps on it and he likes that very much. Sour is good! He bites into a raw egg which tastes disgusting and gets spit out on the floor. He likes munching on carrot tops, but when he takes a soda and shakes it up, it explodes everywhere when he opens it. He takes a huge bite out of a banana without peeling it first, and all those pieces end up from his mouth to the floor, too. When he has eaten everything in the refrigerator, he walks into the living room rubbing his tummy and belches. He is covered with food like a small toddler who hasn?t learned how to feed himself. Kyle sees Josh?s knapsack and a bag of Sour Patch Kids sticking out of it. More food! He takes a bite and it is very sour, but he likes them, so he sits down on the sofa to eat them. He sits on the remote control, accidentally turning on the TV to an old Bruce Lee movie. He watches the characters fighting each other using kung fu. “The time has e to conquer the dragon.” Kyle settles in to watch the movie and eat SPKs. 2 The sounds of the television set have woken up everyone and they e out of their rooms to find out what is going on. Downstairs, Stephen turns on the light switch and they all watch Kyle in front of the TV imitating the kung fu fighters in the movie.
